Organisation - let's make it happen!

This project pretty much is a never ending story - much like Wikipedia. There's always data to add, modify and to improve upon.

I can't really answer any other questions for you though.

Making use of my work's vehicle tracking

Sounds like a great idea to me :)
The only suggestion that I may make is to process the gpx tracks with gpsbabel to simplify the tracks a bit. I don't the load of having to have 1sec interval samples for such big tracks would be good for OSM's servers.
So I'd suggest to simplify the tracks somewhat before uploading them to OSM.
And keep the original detailed tracks for yourself (or others if they request) to do the tracing.

I'm sure I could think of more stuff, but it's late and I should be asleep :P

Any ideas why this diary entry is awry?

I don't know why it's all messed up.
But, if you wish to be able to view it, and you're using firefox then:-

View --> Page Style --> No Style

This removes all styling for that page, and will make it readable.

Making custom highway shields

Nice work there John :)
I may be able to do a few over a lazy weekend sometime.

This is why I love OpenStreetMap

The first intersection I thought of that's just plain horrible is that intersection on Springvale Road. Great to see that that intesection is now only painful for the traffic lights, not as it was before with traffic lights and train crossing.

Anyway, when I'm next in Melbourne I'll be sure to pass through there.
Also, good to see all the fine detail (house numbers!) in Candlebark Park :)

How To Get Your Ex Back

Mapper for N900 soon

Lovely :)
And another reason for me to justify to myself to get an n900 :D

Holiday tripping...

Nice to see you've put in the opening_hours tag for the miniature railway :)
(and the handy dandy note)

Maps

Yep, very much spam.
He could have at least put the coordinates somewhere near Sydney, not near Tara up in Queensland, Australia.

Bloody farms

Are you tracing fences around the farms too? :p

First entry

There's plenty of things you can map, it's best to have a look here for most of the tags you can do:
osm.wiki/Map_Features

Tarifa

If you've got the main roads in, and several other roads / references (like a bend in a main road, roundabout, etc), you could use Walking Papers to do an estimated survey of the town. Even better if you use a trundle wheel and a compass ;)

Well, really

I actually found this a little amusing.
But I guess it's not really very appropriate material to put on the user diary list.
Lets not flame each other, as being a text-based medium there lacks emotions, which can be readily mis-interpreted by various people.
Just have a little laugh about it and move on I guess :P

mkgmap now supports sea polygons

Ooooh lovely :)
Thankyou mkgmap!

I'll have to grab the latest mkgmap and use it this evening.

And thanks Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason for letting us know about it.

Editing GPX traces

There's many ways to skin a cat :P
Each has it's benefits and downfalls.

One way is to use gpsbabel, there's a command you can run that'll prune out nodes within a radius of a specified location(s).

Trick for making perfectly perpendicular/aligned ways in JOSM

Thankyou! I'll have to try this out later today for a few buildings :)

oentuhaonesu

I prefer hammering out gibberish in Dvorak :P

driven to details

I feel exactly the same.
I started off doing roads and the occasional footpath.
That lead onto car parks, parks, emergency marker reference signs.
Which lead into speed bumps / tables / humps, drinking fountains, play grounds, streams, and the odd building.
Now I'm surveying in picnic tables, benches, rubbish bins, recycling stations, ATMs, petrol stations, bollards and gates, schools.
The only thing I've yet to get sucked into is recording house numbers ...

Thirlmere NSW

Wow that's great Babstar!
I think I might survey Oakdale tomorrow on Monday, if I've recovered enough from the flu that's been doing the rounds recently.

We will have to meet up someday.
It's good to see a lot of these small towns and connecting roads being put on the map :)

Osmarender in Shanghai

You can request a render for the Osmarender tiles by going here:
http://informationfreeway.org/
Then zoom into the area you wish to render until you reach Zoom 12
Place your mouse in the square you wish to render, then press "r".

Then in an hour or so you'll see that openstreetmap's osmarender will be updated to reflect what's currently there.
