Post When Comment
Thirlmere NSW

Wow that's great Babstar!
I think I might survey Oakdale tomorrow on Monday, if I've recovered enough from the flu that's been doing the rounds recently.

We will have to meet up someday.
It's good to see a lot of these small towns and connecting roads being put on the map :)

Osmarender in Shanghai

You can request a render for the Osmarender tiles by going here:
http://informationfreeway.org/
Then zoom into the area you wish to render until you reach Zoom 12
Place your mouse in the square you wish to render, then press "r".

Then in an hour or so you'll see that openstreetmap's osmarender will be updated to reflect what's currently there.

software for Sony Ericsson W300i

If you wish to convert between gpx and kml, I'd recommend you try out gpsbabel. It runs on win / lin / mac.

Sydney Mapping Party weekend before FOSS4G

Lovely, I should be able to attend :)
If we know where the FOSS4G conference is, we can micromap that area to add lots more detail to it beforehand.

Helmet Camera

What brand / model is the camera?
What are its specifications?
Is it small and solid-state?

I'm really interested in it :)

Calibrating voice recorder

That's a great idea, I should do this for my digital voice recorder - it'd make surveying by bicycle a lot safer than pulling out a camera all the time.

I don't think it'd be too hard to figure out how to do audio mapping in JOSM - this'll give me something to do this upcoming weekend :P

My first diary entry

What a great idea! Grey nomads would be great for OSM!
You'd get lots of outback roads, toilets, coffee shops, and caravan parks / sites this way :D

Now all I've got to do, is to find a GPS logger that's easy to use (preferably switch on and forget - but some training should be easy enough to do).

Thanks for the great idea John :D

Nambour Mapping Party

Ah yes,
I too suffer from real-time waypoint adding when I'm a passenger in a car.

It gets tricky when you pass several bus stops / emergency telephones on the side of the road all at once!
- which is why I like to use the camera on my phone :P

Good to hear the mapping party ended up going pretty well :)

First Entries

Yay! Another OSMer near North Sydney (near my work)
More deatails around Artarmon and North Sydney would be just great :)

Have fun Polito, and if you've got any enquiries send me a message - we could perhaps even meet up one day.

- Rhubarb

UK, Scotland, Argyll, Cowal, Dunoon & Benmore Gardens

Good to see all the surface type tags, bridges, and benches being tagged in there - nice work :)

I just bought a Royaltek RGM 3800 GPS.

I've actually found that cycling in the rain is sometimes better.
* You don't get sunburnt
* The rain can cool you down
* There's no one in parks, play grounds, or bicycle tracks, so it's much easier to log tracks as there's no one else around to slow you down.

Equipment and software

GPSbabel is indeed a marvelous application :)
Only problem I've got with my 4 month old Garmin etrex Vista HCx is that the rubber surround is coming loose - it looks like the glue they used isn't suitable for warm temperatures. - This should be easily fixed with some decent glue, which I'll probably apply next weekend.

Anyway, have fun surveying with your new garmin unit ceyockey, and don't forget you can put OSM maps on your garmin unit too! :)

More Goonellabah Mapping + road collapse

Is that something worth putting on the map?
- That there's no bridge over that creek.
Or perhaps just mark it as a through road, as it should be fixed up someday (hopefully sooner rather than later).

I quite like adding lots of detail to parks now - right down to rubbish bins :)
Though I should start using the landuse tags, ... and I should probably learn how to do relations. - Someday I guess.

It looks like you're exploring quite a bit there too :D

Karlsruhe Collection

I think I'll start attacking street numbers after I've exhausted POIs, footpaths, and country roads in OSM.

Though it's tempting to put in street numbers in the Cities. - Could be very good for finding those hard to find businesses around the place.

Correcting routing problems.

This sounds like it should be a bug to be submitted to mkgmap:
osm.wiki/Mkgmap

As RichardB writes, it's best not to change the OSM global database to get this to work, as it's ugly and is just a work-around.
Better to get this fixed at what I'm guessing is the source of the problem (Mkgmap) - then we can all benefit from better routing on garmin units from existing OSM data.

- Thanks for pointing this out, as this may well be a bug that's occured with routing for me - though I hadn't had time to try out work out what the bug was.

weird goings on in East Lothian

I'm not sure how that happens, but I've requested tiles around the coastline that are clearly wrong to be re-rendered, it should look all nice again in an hour or two from now.

You can request tiles to be re-rendered using http://informationfreeway.org/
zoom to level 12, then press "r" to request a re-render of the tiles you wish.

Cycle Mapping

Sounds wonderful Ebenezer :)
I should make a start doing the same for North Sydney, and Sydney's outer South West some day.

It should look good on opencyclemap!

Navigation software for a PDA - WM2003

Forgot to give you the link incase you want to grab it:
VisualGPSce:-
http://www.visualgps.net/VisualGPSce/default.htm

Navigation software for a PDA - WM2003

I used to use VisualGPSce on my old WM2003SE PDA, It's no good for navigiting, but it does a really good job at track logging - it can save it as raw NMEA which gpsbabel can easily convert into GPX for JOSM to use.

Country roads around Lismore

The country side looks marvelous there!
Atleast there wouldn't be many POIs to stop and tag there, just street signs and perhaps bus stops :)

Have fun :D
