urgent vs. emergency

Is there a difference between healthcare:speciality=urgent and approved healthcare:speciality=emergency? Do we need to differentiate with 2 tags, or can we summarize those facilities under the tag value "emergency"? --Chris2map (talk) 15:25, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

  1. healthcare:speciality=urgent (English term) An emergency room is a specific hospital department that is the point of admission for patients with acute and life-threatening conditions, or it is a designation for the need to provide urgent medical care.
  2. healthcare:speciality=emergency (English term) generally refers to a serious medical situation, condition, or emergency that requires medical assistance or treatment.
  • Urgent ... immediately, right now, without delay
  • Emergency ... ambulance, rescue, emergency but not urgent
The patient goes to the emergency room on their own (they arrive on foot or by car), but urgent admission (the situation) is ordered by a doctor (e.g., an ambulance).
These combined medical services (in one place) are then referred to without further distinction as "emergency," "emergency care," or "urgent admission," which is sufficient for patient orientation but inaccurate from a professional point of view. --HaPe-CZ (talk) 17:05, 30 October 2025 (UTC)
