healthcare:speciality=urgent (English term) An emergency room is a specific hospital department that is the point of admission for patients with acute and life-threatening conditions, or it is a designation for the need to provide urgent medical care.
Description
Urgent admission means priority or fast admission of a patient to medical care for a condition that directly threatens their life. Depending on the size of the healthcare facility, one emergency admission may be shared by multiple departments or differentiated, e.g., trauma (traffic accidents), infectious (COVID), internal (ARD).
Urgent admission does not always mean that it is a separate office or space. "Urgent admission" is simply a designation of the speed or priority with which medical (health) care should be provided to the patient. Unlike emergency medical services, which may have limited availability, urgent care is available around the clock (non-stop). Sometimes, the emergency room is also designated for urgent admissions, which are specific to life-threatening medical conditions. These combined medical services are then referred to without further distinction as "Emergency Room," "Emergency," or "Urgent Admissions," which is sufficient for patient orientation but inaccurate from a professional point of view.
