Changeset When Comment

Hello,

Thanks for helping.

The Brussels cycle node network is very recent, it has been announced a few weeks ago and the first signs are being deployed. Most signs are still missing and there are countless discrepancies with the official map.

With a group of local volunteers, we are patiently reviewing routes and nodes.

Some routes are partially posted, e.g. there are signs pointing towards node 4 but so far no sign when we are reaching node 4 itself. That is the reason why we still have several incomplete routes, which we always try to document with the "fixme" tag.

It looks like you have created node 4, moreover on several locations.
node/139180474
node/135718186

To the best of my knowledge, those locations do not match existing signs.

Would you please be so kind as to explain what is the source of information you are using? For this network, I think it’s too early to try to "fix" the routes just because validators complain about incomplete routes or missing nodes, and it would be even more complicated to debug incorrect data not backed by surveys.

Hello,

In OsmAnd, you have the possibility to type a more meaningful changeset comment than the default value.

This would help other mappers understand what is going on with all those "Edit town", "Edit village", "Edit neighbourhood" changesets in the previous hours.

It looks like you are adding translations in other languages such as .gfc or .ht. That is fine, but please say it in the changeset title, that would save questions. It if it too difficult, if you are routinely doing the same kind of edits, you can write it on your user page.

Happy mapping!

OK, thanks. We fixed the tags.

(access=no will automatically disallow it for *everyone*, no need to set every mode of transport to the same value.)

And indeed, we keep closed paths visible on the map, as long as they exist, even if they are behind closed gates. ;-)

Hello,

Please do not add postcode or city name on buildings themselves.

Everything inside this area is already recognised as postcode 1930: relation/3479665
Everything inside this area is already recognised as being located in Zaventem: relation/196184

OpenStreetMap is an advanced database, we do not duplicate such information. In most European countries, all the zones are present, we only need to set the street name and housenumber on individual objects.

Hope this helps.

Don’t worry, I did it, it was easy to undo.

Hello,

I am afraid this is not correct.
The tags you added will not make any difference: it will not show up on any layer of the map and I don’t thing any single app will understand them.

They are rebuilding some part of the area, indeed; I remember adjusting the torn down building along Av. de la Couronne/Kroonlaan.

But adding construction=track to some roads is very strange.

"track" is used for forest paths like this: osm.wiki/File:Tracktype_grade3.jpg

And the "construction" key is only used if the highway type itself is set to "construction" (so that tags can be chained). And is reserved for new roads built out of nowhere, never to be used when there are reconstruction works to improve a situation.

If you feel that notifying everyone that there are some works going out in Usquare is important, I might suggest drawing an area (to be tagged as landuse=construction): either a large area covering the relevant part of Usquare, or several small areas, for instance large rectangles around every street.

If you do that, just make sure you regularly follow how the works are going on, to be sure to remove the construction areas from the map when they are done.

Have a nice day.

Hello,

The tags on this traffic island look a bit strange.

crossing:island is used on crossing nodes to specify whether people should expect an island somewhere (typically in the middle of a very large road, and when it is mapped very basically as a single road in OSM). The wiki disallows this tag on areas.
crossing:island=*

I thought you might want to have a second look.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

At first I thought it was either somebody testing how to use OSM or a fantasy edit. Because mostly all tags or geometries are wrong here.

Could you please tell what is going on in this street, and possibly provide a link to information about this road block. So that we know the situation in order to clean up the map.

Thanks.

Hello,

Adding addresses to building is fine but if you do that, please ensure you write the name correctly. It must match the street name exactly as written on the map, otherwise, the house may not be matched with the existing data and your change will raise lots of warnings.

"hertogenlaan" entirely in lower case is not correct. I see you are using StreetComplete, it can help you doing that by tapping on the road when you fill an address.

Hope this helps.

No youtube spam, please!
The website tag is for the official website of a facility.

Hello,

Thanks for this but please do not make up street names.

The address must be written with the street name *exactly* like the name of the road.
In that case, not "Sq. de Meeûs" but "Square de Meeûs - de Meeûssquare". This is important to ensure that addresses can be properly attributed in the database. Don’t worry, I fixed your edit.

Happy mapping!

Saved by Twitter pictures, then.
I fixed the tags because cyclists may use it in both directions, and taxis too.

Hello,

Thanks for having surveyed it.
Until this weekend, there were rumours that this part of the new traffic scheme would be postponed.
It’s good that the new traffic signs are there.
(I was about to go there to survey it today or tomorrow, but since you did it, it will save me time.)

Hello,

Nice change.
However, the changeset title says something completely different. If your titles are auto-generated, I suggest rewriting them before uploading. ;-)

127824718 about 3 years ago

Hello,

Would you please be so kind as to explain what you intended to do with this changeset?

It looks like this is not just "correction de voies non carrossables" but much more than that: you readjusted the perimeter of a school grounds, I also see a new fence around the school, which looks like it was drawn regardless of existing edges. Some cleanup might be needed here.

Just a few more details please, so that other mappers can take over and provide help or guidance about OSM.

Looking forward to your reply.

Bonjour,

That’s all for today. Have a nice day.

Hello,

Can I please give you some more advice here:

1) Avoid changesets covering a relatively large perimeter that do "various stuff" at once. It’s better to either do all the swimming pools in a changeset, then the buildings, etc. or do everything in a block at once, with one changeset per block.

2) Never draw buildings according to aerial imagery, because that generally means tracing the roof (moreover the angle from the picture will vary every year, depending on where the plane was when taking the photo; orthophotos correct some of the error but not all). In Brussels, we have accurate numerical imagery with the correct outline, to solve this problem. Additionally, you would have seen the correct addresses of some buildings you added; I am busy fixing those one by one now to repair as much as I can.

Hello,

Don’t let the standard text boxes in the iD editor fool you: postcode and city are visible in the editor (because the editor can be used in any country) but those fields should never be filled in Belgium, because they are automatically obtained either from existing postcode zones or from associatedStreet relations (and this POI has both).

This saves a lot of time. ;-)

Hello,

I thought you might be interested to know the difference between two tags:
– "note" is aimed as fellow mappers; we use this to warn other mappers about something peculiar (e.g. I use it often for restaurants which have a deliberate spelling mistake in their name, to tell other people that they should not attempt to "fix" it)
– "description" is for the general public. It is shown in mobile apps such as OsmAnd~ As the name suggests, we use it to describe what the object is about.

I changed "note" into "description" for the Olmec statue.

Have a nice day.
