Changeset When Comment

I no longer use Organic Maps but I think that was the problem, indeed. If you click on the address, then the address point will be transformed into the restaurant. Pinning it on the side would therefore always be safe. 😉

162829043 11 months ago

Hello,

Again, we do not mix address points and places.

If you want to add a new restaurant on the map, please create a separate point for it. Do not re-use an existing address point, it is not made for that.

I fixed your changes.

Hello,

This is (literally) your first day editing OpenStreetMap and you a trying to impose personal views on how the database should be structured, not hearing to objections from users who have been mapping for years.

OSM is a geographical database.
We do not repeat the same information on every possible node.

Like several European countries, we have successfully integrated all the postcodes and municipalities in OSM, and the available reverse geocoders already automatically get this information.

Post code 1000 is here: relation/3379410 Every object inside this area is automatically recognised as having this post code.

Brussels-City is here: relation/58274 Same logic.

Please do not add duplicate information. Help us keep a clean database.

Thanks. Have a nice day.

Please do not add duplicate information. Housenumber 123 is already on the map, it should NOT be repeated on the Carrefour Market itself.

Your changeset has been reverted.

Hello.

For the record, "I added another version" does not provide any useful information in the title.

It turns out this changeset added a translation of Brussels into the Kyrgyz language. Not sure why you used official_name:ky instead of name:ky.

Hello,

If you want to update data in ƁódĆș and in Paris, it is strongly recommended to upload them separately. This would avoid that your changes show up as a giant box spreading across 9 European countries.
osm.wiki/Changeset#Geographical_size_of_changesets

Writing correct changeset comments instead of naming all of your changes "Updates" is also wanted.
osm.wiki/Good_changeset_comments

It looks like some changes were made by clicking on suggested tag upgrades in the iD editor (aka the "name suggestion index") for a lot of places in an area, along with changes that may come from your own surveys (like node/9381852823/history for a parcel box).

Would you please be so kind as to explain what you were wanting to do here.

Thanks in advance.

Hello, and welcome to OSM.

I am sure you have good intentions, but unfortunately your edit caused a few problems.

For a first, we should not use ALL-CAPS NAMES in OSM. This is felt like a screaming map, and, as you may have seen when looking at the map, we don’t write names like this.

Also, OSM is a database, and we generally should not repeat the same information multiple times, like naming several buildings identically. Please do not type addresses yourself; all the addresses in Brussels are already correctly set. I understand that this might be difficult to grasp on your first contributions, so we fixed everything here.

Have a nice day.

Hello.

The station will only open on February 28, right?

Isn’t it slightly too early to tag it as an active station on the map?

Also, in your changeset, you applied the "railway=station" and "public_transport=station" to the main building but also to this unnamed building just beside: way/1360807707

As a consequence, the map will show two MRT stations instead of one.

Would you mind if we revert this until the station opens at the end of this month? Thanks.

Hello,

If you want to change amenity=parking into amenity=parking_space for individual parking spaces, this is fine, but you might consider getting rid of the "parking=surface" tag, then. Otherwise, it creates a combination of tags that are not supposed to go together.

Thanks in advance.

Hello, and welcome to OSM.

I understand you have good intentions and probably believe that you are doing something useful when adding the addresses but

Please do not type addresses on businesses. We no longer do this in Belgium nowadays. All the addresses in Brussels are already on the map, duplicating them on shops is unwanted.

For Cambio stations, please do not type "Cambio" as part of the name, we don’t do this either. All Cambio stations already have brand and operators correctly set.

Have a nice day.

Hello, and welcome to OSM.

I am afraid there is a problem here.
We already created a point for Have a Roll, but probably that this "Organic Maps" app does not show all the data, prompting you to add it again. I see that you transformed an existing door for the private entrance for nbr 4 to change it into a bakery. What a mess!

We repaired it, it should be all right now. Changes are instantly visible on the osm.org website. It usually takes a few days or weeks before you can get a data refresh in Organic Maps.

Have a nice day.

Hello, and welcome to OSM.

If a building has been recently demolished, please do not remove it like this.

Instead, retag it (i.e. remove the building tag or change it, e.g. into demolished:building).

That will give the same result for rendering—the building will no longer be visible from the map—but this technique avoids that another mapper comes by, believes there is a missing building here
 and adds it again.

This is the reason why we never brutally erase structures from the map.

We fixed this one. Please try no bear this in mind for future edits.

Happy mapping.

Bonjour,

Hello,

Pardon my curiosity but it looks like "motor_vehicle=designated" was not used correctly. As an access tag, it is basically a synonym for "motor_vehicle=yes".

OSM uses a cascaded access model, where "access" gets overriden with other tags. If you set access=private but also allow every major category of users explicitely (foot, bicycle, horse, motor_vehicle), routers will grant access to
 absolutely everyone.

This "deesignated" value only exists because in some countries (mostly the UK and Germany) there are very specific rules that some roads are only allowed if a street sign says so; but nothing of this kind exists in Belgian law, and we should never use it.

I bet you should remove this tag entirely.

Hope this helps.

Hello, and welcome to OSM.

Nice try
however we had to redo your edit.

For places like this, use a simple floating point. Please do not modify the attributes of existing buildings.

Here it is.

Hello.

Thanks for this, but current (good) practice in Belgium is to retag closed shops/amenities as vacant shops instead of erasing all the data.

There are several reasons for this:

1) QA apps like StreetComplete can easily ask users passing by to check if the shop is still vacant; it cannot do this if there is nothing at all.

2) It does not break relations (we have a relation here to bind this POI with its corresponding address).

3) Researchers occasionally use OSM data to follow the history of changes of some places with time; it works much better if the node stays active and gets retagged every time there is a new shop.

Thanks for this.

Hello, and welcome to OSM.

Thanks for adding shops and places.

Please do not type addresses on them. Leave the address system of OSM work automatically. If you add an address, then the shop becomes the address and it corrupts the database because we get duplicate values.

I will fix your first 4 edits, but please bear this in mind for your future edits.

Thanks.

Hello.

Here is a comment I left yesterday about the same issue.
changeset/162399785

Please be careful with the quest about recycling containers. If you do not understand how to use it properly, please open the settings menu in StreetComplete and switch off this particular quest.

In version #5 of the object, you mentioned that the container run by Oliobox (i.e. the orange plastic box for cooking oil) no longer accepts cooking oil but collects glass. This is plainly incorrect.
node/7900327872/history/5

I will try to repair this again.

Thanks in advance for your collaboration.

162399785 11 months ago

Hello,

This information may be useful to you.
Recycling containers are mapped per operator. So, if we have a pair of container for glasses (Bruxelles-Propreté/Net Brussel), one container for clothes+shoes (Terre) and one container for cooking oil (Oliobox) we map them as 3 separate objects. Each object has an operator and a type of items they collect.
This is important, so that we can have a correct inventory of them.
That explains why users should not tick all the boxes when asked about what containers accept, because that would fill incorrect data (for instance, Bruxelles-Propreté/Net Brussel does not collect cooking oil or second-hand clothes).

Don’t worry, we did the necessary fixes here tonight.

Happy mapping.

Please do not add made-up translations, or discuss it before changing the name of the largest railway station in the country.
Your change has been reverted.
