Changeset When Comment

Hello,

I suppose you have good intentions, and indeed, updating railway infrastructure is probably needed here, if the new tracks are there. It is probably not a good idea to do this in the online editor, especially if you are changing route relations. I see that IC-05, S1, S19 and possibly others are currently broken because of your recent changes. Apps that rely on OSM data will now be unable to provide correct information to users.

Please be careful: railways are a really complicated task in OSM, it might be wiser to learn a bit more about how OSM works and get familiar with the data model before attempting to do major changes like this. I will ask someone to have a look at this and see how we can repair the routes now.

Have a nice day.

Hello,

Thanks for adding more data but some changes will inevitably raise a few questions.

1) Were those places surveyed or are you importing an existing database?

2) If they are surveys, perhaps you should consider adding entrance nodes on buildings and add physical attributes (door width, number of steps…) on those nodes instead of those complicated tags on POI. This is because most apps will ignore the tags you are currently using.

3) Please type proper changeset comments every time you push information into the database. Stating "no comment" sounds a bit like "I’m changing the map but I won’t tell you what". This is considered rude and uncooperative.

Have a nice day.

Hello and welcome to OSM.

Thanks for having documented your changes.
Next time, you can upload things separately.
Very importantly, if a bar/shop/restaurant closes down, please do NOT delete the node, just remove the outdated tags, so that we can identify vacant shops. Otherwise, there is no need to know whether it’s a place containing a shop or just an ordinary house.
I restored the deleted nodes.

Hello,

Could you have a second look at the name tag of this building, please.

name does not match name:fr - name:nl
Which of these should be changed?

141578900 over 2 years ago

This changeset contains one small change in Iceland and one in Romania, which should have been uploaded separately.

If you have already started tracing on two separate locations, you can easily do this in JOSM: Select one part of your changes, then hit File > Upload selection. ;-)

Nice try but look more closely at the border. This house is in Flanders. I fixed its outline based on GRB.

Thanks for the picture. I’ve just fixed it.

I saw your other edit. It looks good, congrats.

Hello,

Adding such points is nice.

But please make sure to fill the proper name tag. I had to redo your recent edits because you always write the data for translations instead of the main name.

141481958 over 2 years ago

Hello and welcome to OSM. Congrats on your first edit.

Adding the address on a building is fine.

Adding a name without further tags makes the map look weird. Now, it looks like we have a house named Wee Fee Designs, which it isn’t.

I suggest you proceed differently:

1) Remove the name on the house itself.
2) Add a single point somewhere inside the house. Add the name on that point, but, more importantly, add a main tag to qualify what it is. I don’t know that Wee Fee Designs does but perhaps something like "office=graphic_design" might be the most suitable tag. The OSM Wiki has a very comprehensive set of suggestions (office=*)
You can possibly add contact details on the node, e.g. its website or social media page.

That way, we would properly separate the building (a house where people live) and the small business operated from this house.

Happy mapping.

Hello,

Is the Oliobox container gone?
You changed its properties to say that Oliobox does not take cooking oil anymore but takes glass bottles.

It looks like a confusion with the other container, operated by Bruxelles-Propreté/Net Brussels.

Those are different amenities, they had been carefully mapped separately, because each one belongs to a different operator.

Could you please clarify what you saw here? How many containers these days?

Hello,

I wish there was a nicer way of welcoming you to OSM, but I want to alert you that many aspects of this changeset are wrong and create problems on the map.

For a first, changesets should be local. When you make edits in one area, please upload them *prior to* changing objects on another area. Especially when you map in several countries. Uploading everything at once will show a huge bounding box on the map, unnecessarily alerting mappers in about 25 different countries.

Writing correct changeset titles is important too: several other mappers review changes, and claiming to add bus stops in the title while in reality you also added shops, removed parking areas and drew buildings make the changeset look suspicious.

Also, one of the main guidelines of OSM is: "One feature, one OSM element".
Please do not duplicate objects, it serves no purpose. On the contrary, it makes the map *less* usable for everyone. For instance, you created a cafe twice, once as a node (node/7425641385) and once as an area (way/130408353). Same for the bakery (node/5891361385 and way/130402993), the toilets (node/11201086837 and way/1209157003), just to name a few.

You might have a second look and remove unwanted tags on duplicate objects.

Happy mapping.

Hello,

All the bus stops seem to be already on the map here. It looks like you are adding extra stops that serve no purpose, that are not linked to relations and with a strange naming scheme.

What are you trying to achieve exactly, please?

Hello,

Having this street one-way creates significant changes in bicycle routing in this area.

As far as I know, this is a municipality that grants a legal exemption to one-way traffic in most of its streets. I am surprised to see "oneway=yes" and no additional tags on this one.
way/1114700278

Maybe you are right but I wanted to make sure we had the same understanding.

Do you confirm that you saw one-way signs and NO additional white signs allowing cyclists to use the street in both directions?

Thanks in advance.

It makes the database lighter but also more reliable. We cannot expect everybody to be able to write the names of municipalities correctly, especially in bilingual Brussels (some people write in one language, some create abbreviations or make spelling mistakes). For postcodes, this is also because in some places—and particularly in Brussels—they do not match the boundaries between municipalities, and non-experts will assume that one municipality always has the same postcode (for instance, 1040 is known to be Etterbeek, but there is also 1040 for the city of Brussels).

That is why we adopted a better system, defining poscode areas once and for all, so that geoqueries will return the correct value.

Have a nice day.

Please never manually add postcodes and city names on addresses in Brussels.

Hello,

This changeset is quite puzzling. It contains changes in Canada (Quebec), Latvia and USA (Georgia).

Again, please upload your changes for one area *before* moving on to another part of the globe.

Here are some comments about the changes.

1) Latvia
Inspecting aerial imagery suggests this is allotments or something like a plant nursery, with small service tracks to connect the fields.
It is very unlikely those are residential roads (way/461488310).
Most EU contries have a very active mapping community, it would be very surprising that all local mappers would have missed that an entire neighbourhood with 15 streets would exist here.

2) Atlanta
The wood you added here (way/1207613504) overlaps with a parking lot (see the existing road: it goes across your wood: way/198546693)
Same for the parking lot which you added here (way/1207613493): it overlaps with the golf course.
It is always a good idea to spend a little more time making sure areas are properly drawn to avoid creating conflicts with existing objects.

Hope this helps.

(I think the part in Latvia should be reverted. Changes in Canada and USA look globally okay, despite some geometry fixes to do.)

Hello,

This is one more friendly reminder to request to please avoid uploading changes for multiple countries at once.

When you claim to have added new roads in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo)… but in fact you also added buildings in Samoa (way/1206034055) it feels quite misleading.

More elements in this note. If I understand it correctly, the "experimental garden" is only a part of the botanical garden, so we’d either use alt_name for searches or draw them separately.

Merci. C’est correct, il y avait une erreur sur la carte, visiblement.
