Hi, Allison P, did you see the responses? They were thoughtful and give me confidence that I picked the lesser of two evils. What do you think? Do you know people at Ridley's? If so, maybe you can advise them on how to improve their site.

I just submitted this question to the OSM Community Forum: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/is-it-ok-to-include-a-website-tag-for-a-point-of-interest-if-the-website-has-any-advertising-on-it/133791

Oops! typo: a question

If OSM prohibited any POI website that contained anything that could be considered ad, a good percentage of websites would have to be deleted. Is that what we want? Sounds like a questions for the OSM Data Working Group.

https://shopridleys.com/locations.php gives the address, phone, and hours for all locations, so that's best we can do now. OSM is a community project, so you can edit out the website if you feel super strong about it. However, that will leave no website at all, except in the changeset source, which is where I found the address, phone, and hrs.

I saw that page, but there is no address, phone number, or hours, just ads, so that would become advertising spam that's prohibited on OSM.

Accidentally didn't get get this in the changeset comments:
Update addr:housenumber per station website.

Hi! Appreciate your mapping because we need all the help we can get, but I have a request. Would you add more specific changeset comments than "add parking and update alignments"? Many times it has nothing to do with parking, so a generic changeset comment is not useful. Might as well leave no comment than a confusing one.

JOSM can show exactly what your changes were, but it would save everyone's time if they didn't have to fire up JOSM. Here's how to help us: do more frequent saves, like when you edit one object or a few nearby objects, and give specific comments for those edits. iD and JOSM will save your comments so you can reuse them from a drop-down menu (and edit as needed). That's pretty cool.
Thanks!

Oops, I meant old_name tags.

BTW, since I added the service roads around the new Otonomous Hotel, wanna add the parking lots?

168430624 6 months ago

All that around the Otonomous Hotel is not "add residential area". I know it's extra work, but PLEASE update in smaller increments so that your changeset comments match what happened. :)

Survey result today: node/7278959378 is completely empty of merchandise and only shelving remains. It could return as any type of shop, so did not use disused:shop=craft

Hi CjMalone! I saw your bulk edit and so I checked the JOANN store within walking distance to me that I had tagged about 2 months ago as about to close: node/7278959378
It didn't get edited. Maybe because you saw I was working on it? Anyway, I'm about to leave the house and will check its status on the ground. Thanks!

Looks like that URL got munged. This is better: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/Data/Documents/Routes-to-Highway-Cross-Reference-Table.pdf

I heard back from my contact in Wren, OR. Here's what he said:

This is a complicated problem, I see this all the time traveling all over the country.
Numbers vs. names, maps vs. signage can make navigating confusing. In this
case, while I don't have any pictures, I can say that I have never seen a sign
saying Halsey-Sweet Home Highway. All the signage and addresses on that road
are OR228. The designation Halsey-Sweet Home Highway #212 is an ODOT
internal designation. This document shows the cross reference for Oregon
highways.
https://www.oregon.gov/odot/Data/Documents/Routes-to-Highway-Cross-
Reference-Table.pdf

For Oregon, in general, outside of city limits, the signage used is the US or State Highway number, not the ODOT name. Inside of city limits it's up to the city to decide whether to use the ODOT name the highway number or some other name. There are, of course, several exceptions to this.

OK, I messaged my guy in Wren OR, asking if any of his photos have street signs. This is getting really interesting!

166593656 7 months ago

One of our guys was just there less than 2 hours ago, confirming the station was live. He's in Wren, OR, so at least in the same state. I'm going to ask him because he might have photos.

Gotta crash. Talk later!

I guess the question is how do we deal with this road being called by several different names? Someone is maybe still calling it "Halsey-Sweet Home Highway" but the US Postal Service doesn't use that and neither does the State of Oregon on their map. So, what do we do?

There are several sections that need to be changed. In the past it was also tagged with different tags in different sections. Kind of a mess right now. Shouldn't the OR highway number take priority over local or historic names? This road probably wasn't an OR state road in the beginning. What do you think?
