What does "privacy" mean for OpenStreetMap?

People can have “interesting” beliefs about privacy and can also have intense reactions when they perceive their privacy has been violated in some way. A few years ago I was visiting a friend in Germany and we visited a second friend on the Baltic coast of northern Germany. The house we visited is part of what in the US we might call “townhouses”, with the houses very close together, some maybe sharing a common wall, but no units above or below another. The houses share a common parking lot, and after our visit I was out in parking lot taking some photos, like any tourist does. A woman next door flew out of her house, yelling at me in German. I only know a few words and phrases in German, so I didn’t know what she was saying, but she was obviously upset about me pointing my camera at her house. My friend came to the rescue and explained that I was a tourist from the USA and it was my first time in Germany. She stopped yelling. :)
