| Cycle routes versus tracks. | Congratulations on understanding the intention of relations! A relation indicates a route that connects many ways, e.g. a bus route. One street (e.g. Main Street) can have many bus routes and one bus route can pass through many streets. So it is a good idea to create one relation for each bus route. It is hard to create a route because you have to type ALL properties MANUALLY:
If a relation is already created once, you can ADD new ways to it in the area where it ends by clicking the ==(four lines)Button on the right side of Potlatch and selecting the appropriate relation. Potlatch, the online editor, has a maximum limit of 24 relations, so you have to zoom in if there are more than 24 relations in one area. As relations are the best way to show a bike route, I was able to delete the ways that are converted GPX tracks. By pressing the G button, you can see if the GPX tracks are still available, if not, you may upload them again. We are depending on local knowledge and we appreciate every help because it is easier to clean up technical mistakes than to collect local data. Thank you for your hard work on a bicycle cruising suburban streets in the hot South in order to improve OSM! Yours, FK270673 |

| My first edit/meine erste Bearbeitung | Willkommen im Projekt und einen herzlichen Gruß nach Duisburg! Dat is Duisburg (Videosatire):

| Organisation - let's make it happen! | This project is completely decentral: First come, first map In Germany, there is an incomplete and voluntary statistics how many streets are already mapped: http://osm.gt.owl.de/Strassenliste/ Currently, big cities are well mapped, but small towns and villages still need attention: http://osm.gt.owl.de/Strassenliste/map-nordrhein-westfalen.html
Where do you live? If you (or your parents or your grandparents) live (at least temporarily) in a small village, you have a good chance to find a white place to map. |
|
| Roads | Right! At least in New York! However, each state has its own system. In some states, like North Carolina and Virginia, State highways also include the lowest level of rural road network, which are designated as tertiary, whereas other states, like Minnesota and Wisconsin, have County highways of high importance, which are designated as secondary. |

| New user | As you can see in the history, this museum was moved twice:
If you work with two browser windows in the same area, your edits might be reverted by the second editor. |

|
| Stop german names in Silesia! | 1. It makes sense to add historic/multilingual names, because we need them to find these towns/villages on the map with Nominatim. Currently, searching German place names in Silesia with OpenStreetMap works very well, but even Google Maps enables multilingual name search. Whereever multilingual names exist, they should be kept in the database. See osm.wiki/Multilingual_names

| lets start OSM | First: It takes several hours to redraw the map. Map updates are sometimes neglecting small edits in order to reduce calculation workload (no new points -> no new map).

| More Data, Fewer Changed Tags | cycleway/footway is a simple approach, especially for newbies. path/track is a theoretical approach for experienced users:
The renderer displays paths with bicycle=designated automatically as cycleways and paths with foot=designated automatically as footways, giving priority to the bicycle tag. However, you need a good local knowledge in order to unify all these park trails. Yours, FK270673 |

| Help needed please | Dear Sam, there are three different types of GPX tracks: waypoints, route and track. OSM accepts my GPX points whenever I decide to upload them as "track" with "trackpoints". The website also enables to upload GPX tracks (tracks > own tracks > upload) quite easily. Try to upload a small and simple GPS track first in order to check how it works - you may always delete your own tracks. Furthermore, GPX tracks and OSM data are different LAYERS. You should try to upload the activated DATA layer instead of the activated GPX layer. If you are just fed up with GPX tracks, try to upload a bus stop, a postbox, a pub or a traffic light first in order to become familiar with JOSM. Doing small edits first increases your confidence. Yours, FK270673 |
