In march 2010 I got to know this OSM project and it seemed interesting to contribute, because in village where I live there were not that much data nodes saved.
I am using Garmin Legend HCx to save tracklogs and waypoints.
For editing I have started to use JOSM web-start on my Asus EEE 702 8GB netbook.
I have already put some most important objects on the OSM map but also encounter some problems.
Some objects are shawn some are not.
Still I am not sure if I am doing something wrong with editing because in JOSM everything seem ok. Maybe uploading was incorrect.
I also tried to use Garmin software packed with the unit but really was confused how to use it ( will re-try it later ).
My editing I am doing on a new layer over GPX file saved with Garmin unit.
Result of editing saving to .osm file.

First: It takes several hours to redraw the map. Map updates are sometimes neglecting small edits in order to reduce calculation workload (no new points -> no new map).
Second: JOSM (the editor) and Mapnik (the map) are written by different programmers. JOSM offers choices which Mapnik implements many months later.
