| Couldn't figure out how to end a bike route. | Dear cainmark, welcome to our project! Bike Routes and Bus Routes are added as relations. As relations are a little bit difficult, I have added the first relation to that area. You can add an existing relation to a street by clicking the = (four lines) symbol on the right and selecting the right relation. Removing a relation is easy - just by clicking the X symbol. Adding a new relation is a little bit difficult, because it requires three or four tags osm.wiki/Tag:(type=, osm.wiki/Tag:route=, osm.wiki/Tag:ref=, osm.wiki/Tag:network=) with the right spelling (e.g. bus instead of Bus) to become rendered. If you want to apply a relation for just a part of a street:

| Suburban footpaths? | Openstreetmap is map for all, so it must include footpaths and cycleways. This map of your neighborhood showing pedestrian shortcuts is IMHO perfect:
Personally, I disagree that footpaths next to a road should be mapped separately if this footpath is part of the road. Have a look at this example in your neighborhood:
In Germany, we have sometimes discussed about a comprehensive solution for mapping all lanes: footpath - cycleway - parking lane - lane - bus lane - lane - parking lane - cycleway - footpath. Meanwhile, it is easier to use the standard solution footway=both/left/right
Currently, only Osmarender renders on-street-cycleways. Unfortunately, we have to wait until Mapnik programmers are willing to implement a solution for rendering on-street-footways. Yours, FK270673 |

| First Post | We always appreciate shopowners who want to add their location to OUR map. You may drag and drop a supermarket and change shop=supermarket to shop=furniture. Unfortunately, the furniture icon hasn't been introduced to the map SO FAR, so it may take a while until furniture shops are displayed. Map programmers are usually slow with introducing new icons. osm.org/?lat=43.412655&lon=-71.987431&zoom=18&layers=B000FTF We would appreciate if you would use Openstreetmap instead of Google maps to display your location though Openstreetmap is still a work in progress :-) |

| Ortsinformationen - Eigener Knoten vs. Landuse | Eigentlich sollte man lieber Informationen lieber auf der Gemeindegrenze unterbringen, weil der Knotenpunkt doch recht willkürlich gewählt ist. Wenn Grenze und Knotenpunkt durch eine gemeinsame Relation verbunden wären, dann könnte der Renderer auf die zweifache Darstellung des Ortsnamens verzichten. |

Anschließend, ca. 20 Minuten nach dem Hochladen, muss jemand diesen Track noch manuell nachzeichnen, sofern dort noch keine Wege vorhanden sind. zu 3)
Die Symbole sind dazu da, um neuen Benutzern die Suche im Wiki zu erparen. Verkehrssperrungen werden üblicherweise dem jeweiligen Straßenabschnitt zugeordnet. Dafür muss man gegebenenfalls die Straße zerschneiden, z.B. in einen Innerorts- und einen Außerortsteil. OpenStreetBugs bietet außerdem die Möglichkeit, Kartenfehler und Punkte mit unklaren Positionen ("hier irgendwo muss ein Wirtshaus sein") an erfahrene Mapper zu melden. Gruß FK270673 |

| K-Straßenverläufe im Altkreis RG | Übrigens: In größeren Städten gibt es einige WICHTIGE Durchgangsstraßen, die als tertiary eingezeichnet sind, obwohl sie keine offizielle Straßennummer (mehr) besitzen. In solchen Fällen gilt old_ref=B* als Nachweis der früheren Bedeutung als Bundes- oder Landesstraße. Dies gilt beispielsweise für die Lichtenseer Straße in Zeithain, FALLS diese noch genauso gut ausgebaut ist, wie sie es früher als Bundesstraße war. Anderenfalls müsste sie als Tempo-30-Zone (highway=residential, maxspeed=30) eingetragen werden. Gruß FK270673 |

| K-Straßenverläufe im Altkreis RG | Die fehlenden Straßen können erst dann ergänzt werden, wenn ein Mapper mit eingeschaltetem GPS-Gerät (i-Blue 747 gibt's bei eBay ab 30 Euro) dort entlanggefahren ist - also wahrscheinlich erst im Frühling, wenn der Schnee bereits getaut ist. Die bei Openstreetbugs eingezeichneten Fehlermeldungen sind allerdings ein guter Hinweis für Mapper, um bei der nächsten Radtour (welch ungewohntes Wort für diese Jahreszeit) einen kleinen Umweg einzuplanen. | K-Straßenverläufe im Altkreis RG | Warum änderst Du die falschen Kreisstraßen nicht selbst? Das Ändern ist relativ einfach: Straße anklicken, tertiary (falls Kreisstraße) oder unclassified (falls keine Kreisstraße) im Menü auswählen und am Schluss mit kurzer Begründung ("Kreisstraßen korrigiert") alles abspeichern. Falls eine Straße zwischendurch aufgespalten werden muss: Knotenpunkt auswählen und X (Scherensymbol) anklicken. Dann kannst Du die beiden Straßen getrennt bearbeiten. Wenn der Online-Editor Potlatch zu langsam wird, dann kannst Du immer noch abspeichern und ein anderes, relativ kleines Gebiet neu laden. Keine falsche Scheu vor den bisherigen Mappern: Mit der amtlichen Klassifikation (B,S,K) hast Du immer ein gutes Argument für Deine Änderungen. Gruß FK270673 |

| Tagging of Roads and Trails | highway=unclassified is a tag for public roads. unclassified roads without motorized traffic are very rare, maybe within national parks. Using the tag motorcar=no would still allow motorcycles to use this way.
Tracks are closed for motorized vehicles by default. However, farmers are often allowed to use these tracks, but farmers don't check Openstreetmap in order to find their fields. |

| Tagging of Roads and Trails | You are completely right: highway=track, tracktype=grade3 (dirt) would be the right tagging for such a former road without motorized traffic. Depending on the surface, you may change the tracktype to grade2 (fine gravel) or grade4 (rough earth). However, it will take centuries to check all rural roads in the United States for their tracktype, so you can't expect to see this tag everywhere in the United States. In Europe, tracktype tagging is much more common as you can see here: |

| Map background | You are living in a rural area with no aerial photos from Yahoo. In these rural areas, mappers are depending on their own GPS tracks. However, JOSM offers the possibility to use aerial photos from your OWN hard disk. If you want to try JOSM, read the manual carefully:
Please keep in mind that aerial photos usually have a bias - big aerial photos cannot be accurate in all areas, but only in a small part. You still need a GPS track in order to check whether the aerial photo has a bias. Yours FK270673 |

| Software-Fehler ???! | Lieber scherzi, Dein Einsatz für eine bessere Software ist wirklich lobenswert. Um Deine Einsatzfreude etwas zu dämpfen, möchte ich Dich über die Funktionsweise von Mapnik informieren. Früher (2008) wurde die Karte jeden Mittwoch aktualisiert - am Vormittag die groben Übersichtskarten und am Abend kamen dann die Detailkarten an die Reihe. Mittlerweile wird die Karte nach Bedarf aktualisiert. Dort, wo viele Straßen bearbeitet wurden, wird die Karte relativ schnell aktualisiert. Dort, wo wenige Straßen bearbeitet wurden, bleibt die Karte mitunter wochenlang auf dem alten Stand. Eine Generalüberholung der gesamten Karte findet nur noch alle zwei bis drei Wochen statt. Es gibt also vier Möglichkeiten, um die Karte zu aktualisieren:
