I do not agree with this edit: [1]. In this way, the allocation of a tram stop is doubled. The tag railway=tram_stop in the center of the stop as is done with the train stations, for example: https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/5324985227#map=19/-34.65949/-58.45006

Platform 2 is a name
Can you please share any arguments why "Platform 2" is not name? Which of the name definitions in Key:name, which I listed at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Tag:highway%3Dplatform#Platform_2_is_a_name , "Platfrom 2" doesn't meet? 3 people being against is only an argument of force when 2 people haven't presented any argument and 1 used a false argument, as I pointed out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pawcio (talk • contribs) 19:50, 26 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Pawcio: Actually, I also believe that quality beats quantity of the arguments, so I'm happy to answer. --Dzamper (talk) 12:50, 27 March 2025 (UTC)
- The three criteria listed at the the Key:name#Values page, which you are calling "definitions of what a name is", are not that. They are mentioned only as "usual sources of primary names". That is, usual sources which can be used to establish which of commonly used names of the object should be the one that goes as the value of
name=*. But the criteria need to be applied only if the object has a name in the first place.
- And I agree with User:Mateusz Konieczny and User:DaveF63 that Names#Names are not for descriptions. Your extrapolation of the "Central Park Tennis Center" example onto "Platform 2" example shows in my opinion not that you've "proven an argument false", but that you've misunderstood the example. I think "it is wrong to add […]
name=Mosquetoamenity=place_of_worship+religion=muslim" fits thename=Platform 2situation better.
- Similar opinion is stated by Key:name#When not to use: Do not use
name=*if "the feature is known by a generic term or description such as 'toilet' or 'basketball court'" and if "the value you are considering adding is not actually a name, but rather […] a reference number or code". "Platform 2" is just a combination of a description "Platform" and a reference number "2". This is not the same as your "2nd Street" example (if that is an officially assigned address of course).
- Can you say to a friend "This platform is named 'Platform 2'" without sounding weird at all? (on the other hand, "This street is named '2nd Steet'" seems fine to me.)
- You say "What are the arguments for ref=2? Does it add a bigger value than a name?" Yes it does, because you can machinely interpret that value without knowing all the languages and all the "name" patterns.
- You say "What if some rail networks have unique reference numbers for all platforms within the network?". Then you can use
local_ref=*for the local reference andref=*for the unique one. - You say "How extra work, needed in every render to render platform names as ref, is an added value?". Well, there are certainly many more platforms than renderers, so how is that "extra work" exactly?
- --Dzamper (talk) 12:50, 27 March 2025 (UTC)
- This way exactly - 7 years work in no progress in the most popular render: https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/issues/3271 Pawcio (talk) 18:51, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
Synchronization of tag descriptions between data item and Wiki page
Could you please edit both tag descriptions, the one of the data item and the one on the corresponding Wiki page, to keep them synchronized? The one should be a copy of the other because some tools use the one data source, some the other one (taginfo the Wiki page, iD editor the data item). --Chris2map (talk) 06:52, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Chris2map: Hi. Sorry for the trouble. For all data items where I've edited the description, I've updated the description in the infobox in the corresponding article to match the data item description. I haven't checked the other way around though, that seems too hard to track down for now. Dzamper (talk) 15:08, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks and no worries! You may use Category:Mismatched description in default namespace for English and Category:Mismatched description for other languages. --Chris2map (talk) 15:58, 23 July 2025 (UTC)

Hi, I just want to tell you that I have reverted your addition to the access page, because the key you had put is almost unused (just 66 uses worldwide). —Dieterdreist (talk) 08:21, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Dieterdreist: Hi. Yet is is notable enough that Vienna Convention specified a dedicated sign for it:
. That's contrary to for example the nev=*key, present on the Key:access list since 2022, which applies only to California, and which also has only 66 uses. Dzamper (talk) 09:10, 23 July 2025 (UTC)- Good find that nev also is not used. Maybe it should be raised in the forum? Can you open a thread? —Dieterdreist (talk) 09:29, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
Your edit on the Default speed limits page - table headers
Sorry, I had to revert your edit on the Default Speed Limits page because I believe it breaks the machine-readability of the table, or if not that, then at least the assumptions made when researching all the legislation for all those countries. Which is a pretty big deal. I.e. the assumption is that everything specified in the bus column is valid for all sub-categories (minibuses, truck buses, school buses and coaches/"tourist buses"), too.
If this super-category is removed, then the information in the whole table becomes wrong. Same thing for goods.
And to be honest, I find the argumentation in the community forum thread somewhat spurious. Which bus is not a public transport vehicle? Flixbus, for example, might be a private company, i.e. not a state company, but it is still public transportation! In many countries (outside Europe), there is not even any official state public transportation. And well, even the formerly state-owned train services in Britain are all private companies ... actually, even Deutsche Bahn is too. And really, I don't see anything on the wiki page for Key:bus that would make the usage of the bus column on the Default Speed Limits as a supercategory for all buses page incorrect. I do read the same on the Key:goods wiki page - the exact definition of the maximum gross weight when a goods vehicle becomes a hgv depends on the country and in some countries, they are not differentiated at all. (I.e. there are no hgv - heavy goods vehicles - , only gvs - goods vehicles).
I do, by the way, recognize that for access restrictions like Tag:bus=designated, i.e. (psv) bus lanes, the tag should probably usually be interpreted more strictly to include *only buses from the local official city public transportation service*, i.e. I am not sure whether long-distance buses (Flixbus etc) would be allowed on such bus lanes, but probably not. But that again is really dependent on the individual state's legislation and if one wanted to be super-precise there, one would even need to specify from which transport association may use these bus lanes as certainly a city bus from the Berlin transport association may not use a bus lane in Hamburg if a long-distance bus may not use it(?). But anyway, this is deeply in pea-counter territory, so no wonder why noone reasonably suggests to go that much into detail.
Anyway, if you still feel that the article needs clarification because the columns chosen for this table deviate from the meaning as described in Key:bus and Key:goods, I suggest you add a new subsection or paragraph to Default_speed_limits#Speed_limits_by_vehicle_type instead that explain the differences / assumptions made in this table.
