Check Osmose issues

- If wikipedia links have in wikidata become redirects, osmose may show them as errors. This happens when other wikipedia articles for small village articles are redirected state in languages other than english, wikipedia. Not much can be done.--Arjunaraoc (talk) 11:33, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
Resolve stale wikidata
Wikidata identifiers might have been redirected to new identifiers by users on wikipedia/wikidata. Deduplication of Wikidata on villages
Wikidata ids duplicated twice atleast twice on osm village nodes in AP (95 as on 6 November 2025). I have started to resolve with helpf of PMGSY habitation open data.--Arjunaraoc (talk) 08:59, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
- I observed it takes on average about 7 minutes to resolve one duplicated item, as consulting of PMGSY, OSM, Bharat Maps AP portal,Wikipedia, Wikidata is required.OT script is useful to identify the surrounding mandal, district info visually for a node with id as input. Duplicates happened because of the approximate mapping of English names from wikidata with OSM, presence of same name for multiple nodes on OSM. Adding Telugu names for villages with Wikidata ID

Discrepancy in OSM village location when compared with wikidata location
When I checked the accuracy of OSM location data against Wikidata for places in Andhra Pradesh, I found 99 places as of 5 November for which the difference is more than 3.5km (Qlever query). All of these are in Alluri Seetharama Raju district. These need to be fixed and checking for other districts also need to be done.--Arjunaraoc (talk) 08:59, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
- ALl discrepancies barring ASR district addressed. I am working on ASR district to control the error to less than 2 Km. As there are more possibility of revenue villages without habitation of same name, the nodes are being changed to ways based on the village boundary available from APGIS portal run by APSAC with digitization through piclayer plugin of Josm. Taking a screenshot with Openstretmap as the base map in APGIS will help in georeferencing by using the near by village nodes as control points. The boundaries of such villages will be distinct from any other boundaries existing on the map for now. in future when village boundaries are mapped for whole of AP, the boundaries need to be cleaned up to align with any mandal/district borders .--Arjunaraoc (talk) 10:17, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
- After some editing, I realised it is not possible to control the error to less than 2 km as the satellite images are not helpful. It is better to leave the location on OSM as is but update with PMSGY ID, and populate PMGSY location in Wikidata, so that the differences show up and can be addressed later by people with ground truth.--Arjunaraoc (talk) 23:13, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
- The discrpancy (>=2km) count is reduced to 98. Confusion between Revenue Village, Habitation is preventing any more fixes. The way to address these is to go through LGD directory and map for gram panchayat and its constituents habitations. --Arjunaraoc (talk) 00:27, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
Placeholder for villages
OT query for visualising the villages/hamlet nodes without name reveals 736 such nodes across AP. Most of these are created from satellite images and some are from SOI or other imports where name was not available. Now that high quality PMGSY habitation data is available, it is better to delete this data, as this data can not be maintained. - Approximately hamlet and village usage is equal. 94% of nodes are in version 1.
- 80% of latest version edits are by 6 users out of 36 total contributors or (16%).
- Highest contributors in descending order of contributions are adivik2000,ph4ni,muzirian,NoNameX,mottiger, and DaxServer.
- 11 years account for contributions, with highest contributions in the year 2018 accounting for 242, followed by 2025 (till date) accounting for 141.
PMGSY with extensive habitations data was released to public domain on February 22, 2022. OSM contributors have not been able to update the non Revenue village data with PMGSY ids even after 3 and half years. As the nameless nodes are not even visible in default osm map at commonly used zoom levels,(named nodes show up at zoom level 11, versus unnamed nodes only appear as symbols at zoom level 17) these nodes have infinitesimal possibility of any enhancements by others, the practice of adding place holders with out names needs to be discouraged. --Arjunaraoc (talk) 11:10, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
- As per telegram channel discussion, it is agreed that active mappers should modify place holder nodes by adding PMGSY ID or changing to a way representing residential landuse. No new Placeholder nodes for villages should be created. --Arjunaraoc (talk) 10:14, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
ASR district mandals and gram panchayats
As ASR district has 3000+ sparsely populated habitations, it is better any effort to improve focus on Panchayat hq which are much smaller (265) Here is the data parsed from LGD database of 1 Oct 2025 (source: https://github.com/ramSeraph/opendata/releases/download/lgd-archive-extra1/pri_local_bodies.Oct2025.7z) LGD data still has info as per pre 2022 AP districts, ASR district is parsed from the East Godavari and Vizag districts as per the mandals transferred to it. Nellipaka mandal in LGD database is replaced with Etapaka mandal to tally with the current information.

Should we use PMGSY habitation id on large scale?
I have explored adding PMGSY ID to about 200 places. I have encountered few errors. There were few past discussions about the data quality on telegram channel and github repository over the past three years. (telegram message link, (github issue). There seems to have been some updates about district, block structure as per a message on github but not any improvements like habitation id to revenue village link even after three years. Are there any other updates to PMGSY habitation data like habitation id's getting merged, habitation location getting updated? Is the habition ID stable and maintainable for large scale use in OSM?
