Talk:Tag:man made=charge point
Naming
As a man_made=charge_point is not related to the charge point, but the stall, I think this tag should be renamed to something more meaningful, something like "dispenser", "stall"...

I think the first sentence of the page addresses this:
The charge point tag is used to map the individual physical charging devices (sometimes also known as "dispensers" or "stalls") at charging station sites, like fuel pumps at fuel stations for combustion vehicles. Each charge point usually has one or two connectors or cables for charging electric vehicles.
While I reside in an area where charging points are referred to as dispensers, most of the standards that exist around EV charging stations and EVSEs refer to the dispensers as EV charge points [1] [2]. I'll admit this is made extra confusing because ChargePoint, an operator/brand/network of charging stations and manufacturer of charge points, also exists. -- KevinMapsThings (talk) 01:06, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
Confusion between the different levels is also a problem in OCPI terminology, particularly the confusion between "stalls" and charge points (or EVSEs). See this issue: https://github.com/ocpi/ocpi/issues/454

- I'm not english native but for me "dispensers" or "stalls" aren't the same :
- a unit/devvice/dispensers can be used by one or more stalls/car/charging space (often 2 here)

Manufacturer and model
Part of me is wondering if it's worth adding the manufacturer and model of the charger; and if so: which tagging.

@GA Kevin: The File:HYC400 Perspective KMS.jpg specified by you doesn't exist. Where should it be? --Chris2map (talk) 19:12, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Chris2map! This was a nicely framed, backgroundless image from the manufacturer of the HYC400, Alpitronic. However, it seems that Commons did not believe it was truly the company uploading the image so they removed it. In its place I put an image of the same model of dispenser I personally took at a local charging station. Hope this helps! --GA Kevin (talk) 19:48, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
on sidewalk or in the parking lane?
In Germany, many charging stations are currently errected for two cars on the dedicated parking lane, which is in parallel to the street. They are either errected in the parking lane itself, which may "cost" one parking space or on the side walk, which takes even more space for car infrastructure. Suggested tagging: location=sidewalk and location=parking
- Per the charging station page, you would encompass the area as the charging station, the dispenser as a charge point, and the space as charging as normal. Is there a time this wouldn't apply that you are seeing in your surveys? See the image
for how that would look street side, you'd just need to encompass the spaces into the overall charging station. --GA Kevin (talk) 18:24, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
