Many charging stations have designated spaces close to the charge points customers are expected to use. In some cases, this restriction is legally enforceable, in others it is a suggestion or "last resort" space. In the United States and elsewhere, the term ICEing is used when a Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicle is parked in a designated charging space. If a space is legally designated as a charging space (i.e. signposted as "EV Only" or similar) the tag restriction=charging_only may be used in lieu of access values.

How to map

information icon

A designated charging parking space may be mapped as an area area or node node. An area is preferred when it is feasible.
  1. Within a parking area area, create a second area area surrounding only a single parking space.
  2. Add the tags amenity=parking_space + parking_space=charging to designate the space for charging EVs.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until all spaces are covered.

Examples
