Padel is a racquet sport invented in 1969 in Acapulco, Mexico.

It is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash. The court looks a bit like a tennis court but it is smaller and it is enclosed by walls and fences. The game is usually played as doubles, on a court measuring 20m X 10m. There are also singles courts (much less common) which are 20m X 6m. The players can use the glass walls and fences during play to bounce the ball.

It originated in Mexico and is most popular in Spanish-speaking countries, but spreading rapidly across Europe and other continents.

Not to be confused with sport=paddle_tennis, also known as POP tennis, which is played on an open court (without walls), mostly in the United States.
