The activity of longbowl on the road consists of throwing a flask into a road (with any type of road surface). The game consists of throwing a flask into the road so that it can travel the longest possible distance.Competitions take place on all kinds of roads, generally on asphalt.

The game is played in many different variations. In Germany it is known both as Bosseln and Klootschießen, as Tiro de bola aragonesa it is played in the Spanish province of Saragossa, as Bocciaforte (also Boccia su Strada, Boccia alla Lunga or Boccetta su Strada) in Italy, as the variant Ruzzola (or Ruzzolone) also in Italy, as Irish Road Bowling in Ireland, Canada and the United States and as Krugeln in Huttwil in the Swiss canton of Bern.
