An artificially created place where you can skate, play bandy or ice hockey. This tag is for places where there is substantial "infrastructure" to make the skating possible. So a lake that just happens to freeze over each winter should not be tagged with this tag.

How to map

Place a node node in the centre of the place or draw an area area along the outline of the area and add leisure=ice_rink.

  • building=yes should be used when it's covered and the whole building is the ice rink. Possibly, use building=sports_hall if the building was originally built as a sports hall (large single room for practising sports). Otherwise, if mapped as a node, or the rink occupies only part of the building (for instance, when part of a larger leisure centre or facility, e.g. leisure=sports_centre), then use covered=yes.
  • seasonal=yes should be used when it is only open in the cold season.
  • sport=* what sports the ice rink is used for. eg sport=bandy, sport=ice_skating, sport=ice_hockey, sport=curling. If several different sports, they can be listed, separated by ';'

Where the ice rink is used for professional sports, the tag leisure=stadium can be added either to the building or to the arena to include seating etc. Note that large arenas may have two or more rinks, typically a major stadium and a practice/training rink.
