Description
Belgian operators sell combined tickets where passengers are allowed to use any public transport within a given area for a fixed price.
Those tickets are named Brupass tickets. As of 2025, there are two zones:
- Zone 1 ("Brupass"): the entire Brussels-Capital Region plus some stops in the Vlaamse Rand, at most a few kilometers outside the Brussels border
- Zone 2 ("Brupass XL"): a larger zone
Tickets are sold on different prices, and a "Brupass XL" ticket allows travelling in both zones. There is no ticket that lets people travel within the XL zone without the other.
As an exception to the rule, Brupass tickets sold by STIB/MIVB are valid on zone 1… but also inside the Brupass XL zone provided that the passenger uses a STIB/MIVB route. Navigation software must be aware of this: people travelling from Ruisbroek Voetbalclub to Lot Station need a Brupass XL ticket to use De Lijn bus R10, but can use a normal Brupass ticket to do the same trip with STIB/MIVB bus 50.
How to tag
- Inside the Brussels-Capital Region 54094
54094: not needed because every stop within this area is automatically identified as being inside zone 1 - NNMBS/SNCB railway stations outside Brussels: add on the main station node (one station, one name, one station)
- De Lijn and TEC stops outside Brussels: add to every stop node (this is the object that has
public_transport=platformand is used inside route relations with
platform
