Hi geterind,

Thanks for improving parks.
Not sure if you're aware of the good practice of not "tagging for the renderer" (osm.wiki/Good_practice#Don't_map_for_the_renderer).

Please don't replace bench ways with bench points just to get them to show up on a specific renderer like openstreetmap.org. One issue is that it destroys valid data and replaces it with less accurate information. The second is that just because it doesn't show up on osm.org doesn't mean other renderers don't use it. OsmAnd, for example, *does* show bench ways!

Would you be able to restore these ways, or would you mind if I do?

Thanks!

Hi bmclean02,

Welcome to OSM!
Thank you for improving the map by updating the name of Beacon Grand hotel, marking Scala's as closed, and moving Marriott's taxi stand to the right place!

Unfortunately, some of the changes to the buildings resulted in skewed shapes and deleted history. For example, building way/32863429/history was deleted and replaced with way/1087975355/history, which didn't have right angles and also removed the building's history. In the future, you can press "Q" in iD to make sure ways have right angles.

I've tried to improve your changes in changeset/125431641.

For example, instead of appending "permanently closed" to Scala's name, I instead used the "disused:amenity=restaurant" tag (disused:amenity=*).
Instead of adding "formerly Sir Francis Drake Hotel" to Beacon Grand's name, I added "old_name" (old_name=*).

The OSM Wiki (osm.wiki/) has a lot of helpful hints on tagging and editing.

Thanks again for your changes.

Happy mapping!

Hi CurlingMan13,

Thanks for fixing my note (note/3314598)!
Just FYI, an anonymous user commented in note/3314907, I think complaining about leaving the "amenity=restaurant" tag.

Generally to mark a restaurant as vacant (at least in SF) we use the "disused:" prefix (disused:amenity=*) instead of adding "vacant=yes". Unfortunately, many renderers are naïve and will see the "amenity=restaurant" without even looking at "vacant" and assume a restaurant is there. Other data consumers like StreetComplete also understand tags like "disused:shop=yes" and can ask mappers later on if shops are still vacant.

I've already gone ahead and changed this in changeset/124954745.

Anyway, thanks again for fixing my note (and all the other notes you've fixed in SF)!

Forget to add that Zoomo's homepage was a source for their details.

Hi oba510,

Sorry about that! I've restored the "outdoor_seating=parklet" tag in changeset/124327369

Here's a post-mortem of what happened though. I visited Zachary's on Friday.
When I answered the StreetComplete quest, there wasn't any indication of a previous outdoor_seating tag.
OsmAnd didn't show any outdoor seating information either. OsmAnd renders outdoor_seating=yes and values like "patio", but apparently "parklet" isn't recognized, so it doesn't show any information at all.
So I didn't realize there was a previous tag. I wouldn't have changed it if I did.

That being said, when I visited on Friday, I did notice the parklet, but I vaguely recall some sign on it like "public parklet" (though I may be mistaken).
Nobody was dining out there, and when we did dine in, they didn't mention outside being an option.
I looked at their website, and also didn't notice any mention of outdoor seating.
So it seemed to me like you could get takeaway and eat it at the "public" (I assumed) parklet, but they didn't serve you there.

Anyway, it looks like I was mistaken, and going forward I'll try to check the tag values through the OSM website to make sure I'm not obliterating previous values.

Thanks for catching this mistake!

Hi, Stepan!

Sorry for the delay in my response.
Thanks for providing those details. You're absolutely right, that section of the road is gone. I've removed it again in changeset/124074566, but I drew out the traffic island and left a note to give a better idea of why that road was removed.

Thanks again!

Hi, Stepan!

Thanks for the response! The image you provided makes it easier to see what's going on here.
So it looks like that road still exists, but it's just that left turns aren't possible there.
Since the road wasn't removed (and just a sign was added), I've re-added the way in changeset/123057443, but I added a "no_left_turn" restriction.
This is almost functionally equivalent to your edit, for routing purposes, except that it might be possible to pull a U-turn from Vista Access Road onto itself.

Does this edit work for you? Let me know what you think.
Thanks!

No problem. I undeleted the address node in changeset/123026293.
I marked it as vacant, but put a "fixme" tag to check it.
Thanks for the info!

Hi mueschel!

Sorry for the delay in responding.
The tagging "overpowered=yes" was meant as a humorous, but truthful, description of the water pressure of this particular drinking fountain. The water pressure for this drinking fountain is way too high for a normal person to drink comfortably from it.

I've amended the drinking fountain with an explanatory "description" tag in changeset/122923981.
Let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Hi,

Welcome to OSM!
Your edits on foot traffic for bridges seem reasonable to me.
For a couple streets like Page and Jones Street (e.g. way/1073084907/), is there a reason bicycles can pass and foot traffic can't?
Are they gated off?
In that case, it'd be better to add an `access=private` tag and a barrier node.

Happy mapping!

Hi salgorithm,

Welcome to OSM!
Your edit generally looks good to me.
However, I'm not sure that you're allowed to use information from BuzzBuzzHome for the "building:flats" information, as it goes against their terms of service (see also osm.wiki/Legal_FAQ).
Information from the SF government is probably okay, since their data is often licensed under the PDDL.
You might want to delete the "building:flats" tag unless you surveyed that yourself (or if you can derive it from a permissible source).

Also, just FYI, if you want to make a building perfectly rectangular, you can hit the "Q" key after drawing and selecting it.

Happy editing!

Wow, does Hanaro actually use Vistaserv for their official homepage? Or is this like a fan site?

Hi LetsContribute,

Welcome to OSM!
Just FYI, the address for the node you added (node/9777806400) is in the wrong format.
See e.g. addr:street=*.

You probably want to tag it as:
addr:housenumber=1300
addr:street=Evans Avenue
addr:unit=Suite 30

OsmAnd doesn't have a place to put the Suite number, so you'd have to use the "Advanced" tab if you wanted to add that information.

Hi Redoct878,

A few of the nodes you deleted had address information attached to them (e.g. node/6701950550/history).
Are these stores now vacant?
Rather than deleting the whole node, it's usually better to tagged it as disused (see disused:shop=*).
This way, we don't lose address positions, and also mappers can be later prompted by StreetComplete to add a new shop when one appears (osm.wiki/StreetComplete/Quests#cite_ref-:26_47-0).

Let me know these stores are vacant and I'll resurrect the deleted nodes.

Hi Mingwei,

The node you deleted had address information attached to it. Is Eatsa now vacant? Rather than deleting the whole node, it's usually better to tagged it as disused (see disused:shop=*).

Hi smikhnouski_lyft,

Just FYI, there's a comment by an anonymous user at: note/3237384

Looking at satellite and aerial imagery, it does seem strange that part of the road was removed.
Can you not make a left from Lincoln Boulevard onto Vista Access Road?
