Fail to upload data

Posted by m_yanagisawa on 23 July 2011 in English.

I recently trying to import Yahoo highway data of the area not so far from my home.

But I often fail to upload data. Uploading suddenly stop before I finish.
Such a case always happen in night time, 9 to 11 pm JST.

I can't find out what's wrong. I think it's not because of my computer but my provider's line or OSM's server.

Anyway I 'm so often failed to upload data that I can't feel to try to upload ner data.

Do not upload Yahoo data or Bing data!!!

You are only allowed to trace from the satelite images from those providers. Only the satelite images and not any highway data.

Yahoo Japan already decided to give permission to use data of Yahoo/ALPSMAP until this September.
Data is available on wiki site (only in Japanese)

Besides the legal aspects it is OK if the local mapping community agrees to the import and finds the imported data useful, suitable, accurate and up to date. If there is no local community to maintain that data it might be better not to
import it.
To get a better general impression what many people think about
imports and their impact on the project and on the community, see the
panel discussion that took place some weeks ago at SOTM-EU in Vienna:

Hi, dieterdreist!

I can't see the video of panel discussion smoothly, but wiki page about 'Automated Edits' seems interesting. Yes,"With great power comes great responsibility "

Actually I didn't use bot or script but manually imported data.

There is a page which is newly made for our project.
osm.wiki/YahooJapanALPS_Data/Highway

Our project priority is importing data of the area where the TSUNAMI hit in May 2011. Now data near there almost completed.

Some scientists alert us that crustal activity near the east part of mainland of Japan is now activated. I live not so far from Tokyo. A month ago, the area near my home town on OSM is vacant. At first I carried GPS data recorder with me and mapped roads according to my logs, but soon I thought it takes very long time to make complete map. At that time, I found the project of importing data from Yahoo Japan/ALPSMAP. I wanted to import many data near my house. Because OSM is very useful in case of disaster like this
http://www.sinsai.info/ushahidi/

I want to prepare for earthquake.

But now I know I must pay more attention to import data
OSM is NOT Yahoo's map.

I'm now importing data of the city of KUMAGAYA where locate east from my home town. When Kumagaya is completed, I will start to carry my GPS data recorder again. I will map roads by my own data soon.

Thank you for your advise.
