George_ath actually came up with this scheme.

Hi, with all due respect, it is not that we do not like you, but in order for OSM to succeed we have to follow consensus, otherwise the map would be too messy and unusable. If you want to propose a change to a standard, you should ask in the forums or the wiki, rather than just editing the whole data yourself and leaving the wider community confused or unreasonably suspicious.

I have read them, but that is not enough of evidence to justify the change. The bottom line is you are doing this without the consensus of the community.

Hi, only the A8 east of the Korinthos interchange is part of the E94 European road. Source: https://www.mapillary.com/map/im/vylF_ZADdYCOnrdxWcyuHA

I believe that both ΕΟ and Ε.Ο. are equally valid, but when we really started to streamline the roads on OSM, ΕΟ appeared to be the dominant format and thus I merely went along with it.

Yes, the dot. If OpenStreetMap for Garmin is making the initials appear like Eo, then it is the software developer that should fix it, not us.

You are still going against consensus on the road numbers.

Okay. I do data validation from time to time.

Hi, I would not worry about roundabouts being split into two or more ways: it is very common, for reasons such as showing a transport route (e.g. bus) correctly.

The large number of node changes were caused by buildings straddling over roads and landuse.

Here is my reply: https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=63677

I think it is better to discuss in the forum since it is easier to reference the posts later.

You’re right about keeping the names short and simple (in this case, the A6 should just be Αττική Οδός/Attiki Odos) - however, tunnels have their own names, so in tunnels the main road name goes to the alt_name=* tag.

Another thing of interest, name:el=* is not necessary, since Greek is the official language anyway. Tempting, I know. ;-)

When we map national and provincial roads with substandard road conditions, we use the "surface" and "smoothness" tags. The reason I map national and provincial roads with the standard categories (secondary or higher), is because it is in the Greek law. See osm.wiki/WikiProject_Greece/National_Road_Network.

If I recall correctly, crossing ways without an intersecting node are not allowed for level junctions, and is also why we have turn restrictions to direct traffic to the correct path.

Hi, at osm.wiki/WikiProject_Greece I believe that the current consensus is that the road numbers are tagged under "ref" and not "nat_ref". It is worth noting that we do not tag just for the renderer. See: osm.wiki/Tagging_for_the_renderer

I think we should go to https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewforum.php?id=27 to develop a new standard for road names. I let you start the thread.

61427281 over 7 years ago

Apologies for sounding strict, but if I recall correctly, the format for the road numbers are: Α12 (motorways), ΕΟ12 or ΕΟ12α (national roads) and ΕΠ12 (provincial roads). Letters should be in Hellenic alphabet. Also, refrain from removing names in other languages: OSM is a global project.

I also noticed that no one could figure what the direction the way was in Potlatch 2, but since Flash is heading for the grave …
