Changeset When Comment

This large changeset contains various edits in several places of England (London and Cornwall) but also in Vietnam, Taiwan and in the province of Xinjiang (north-west of China). This should definitely never be uploaded as a single changeset.

Please read this prior to further large-scale edits.

Thanks for this.

Just one thing: OSM is a database where tags determine what objects are.

So, when you create a charging station, it gets a primary tag like this: "amenity=charging_station".
This is enough to qualify it, it will be searchable and it will be rendered.

But please do not add a *name* on top of that, because "name=Charging station" will unnecessarily clutter the map; this is a description and not really a name.
Names are only for objects that have names (e.g. shops, statues, etc.)

Hope this helps.

OK, thanks.
Someone went there yesterday and brought new pictures, so we’ll have a few more things to change here. No need for further edits from you, we will adjust the map here.
Have a nice day.

Hello and welcome to OSM.
You seem to have changed the access permissions on several ways in the past weeks.
We got reports about broken routing because of those changes.
Remember: if you set bicycle=no or foot=no on a road, then all routing engines will remove it from the results… but it is your responsibility to make sure to add alternative connectors to the existing cycle- or footpaths. Navigation engines will never assume that people may just "jump" to a nearest road, it only uses existing roads and paths.
I’ll try to fix this one and put your other changes for further review.
Have a nice day.

Thanks for adding the missing shop, but please do not create duplicate addresses to shops and places. Addresses are automatically computed by proximity or from the container building.

I don't mind either spelling but didn’t this country request the "Türkiye" spelling to be used in every language?

Hello,

Thanks for this but could you make changeset titles clearer about the *content* or the *intent* of what you want to change. It sounds as if your comments are scripted by a bot, this always raises some suspicion.

In this changeset you added a jersey barrier, which is quite a significant change because it completely bars navigation for motor vehicles. This is why I talked about suspicion: we’ve had enough stories of people adding incorrect data hidden under innocuous changeset titles. ;-)

As for the jersey barrier: the latest information I have is that it has been put away from the the road, though bollards are there and effectively prevent motor vehicles from entering this road, as this picture shows.

I will update the map accordingly.

Hello,

The changes seem to be okay.

But next time, please make sure to upload that in two separate changesets.

Namely, work on one area, THEN upload your work. And only then, start changing the other part of the map.

Uploading everything at once created a fairly large box covering a large part of Belgium, for no reason.

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply.

I have been looking at the list of issues on Organic Maps repo, they currently have about [2,350 open tickets](https://github.com/organicmaps/organicmaps/issues) with bugs, and some open issues are about strange routing behaviour. Because OSM data does not contain anything special here about those crossings, no sensible router should ever suggest that cars make a U-turn there.
So, your relation may be a good fix for this one—I have just tested on fresh data and it will now suggest a loop through the adjacent car park, I am not sure this is a good suggestion either—but they will definitely need to fix their own algorithm.

Hello,

Addresses in Belgium are already on the map (mostly on building outlines or on doors like here). Please do not type addresses manually on restaurants, it creates unwanted duplicates that corrupt searches.

Your edit has been reverted.

The road structure was simplified on July 20 because it was incorrectly drawn as two carriageways.
changeset/154192222

Maybe you are the one who wrote the note here: note/4341109

What does your local copy or Organic Maps look like? If you see Auguste Demaeghtlaan as two parallel roads, then you still have the old data on your phone.

Hello,

I think the "via" node is wrong here: relation/17945654

You probably meant the intersection itself.

For the record, I wonder why you want to create so many restriction relations; is there a problem with some router that suggests U-turns on ordinary ways? Should that occur, this is probably something better fixed in the software itself.

Hello,

I had to redo this edit.
You merely renumbered two UrbIS address points and gave both of them the same house number 221. Not only this creates an unwanted duplicate address but also 221 is unknown in UrbIS, so we cannot let a node having this address and a reference number.
We’d better make number 221 a separate node. I retagged the former nodes as non-existing addresses instead, to avoid generating errors when validating against UrbIS.
Have a nice day.

Hello,

Is this an underground fire hydrant?
https://www.mapillary.com/app/?pKey=6725145007588024

I am asking because in recent times we started mapping them but the fire brigade people (who use OSM) urged us to stop adding them because of the high number of false positives, as not every cover is an active hydrant.

Do you have more information about this? Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Please observe that in the Brussels-Capital Region, the "name" tag must match the concatenation of name:fr and name:nl.

You added name:fr and name:nl tags that are longer versions of the name tag.

For the record, this area had been intensively discussed in recent months after this note: note/4076361 and I am a bit worried that in past changesets you seem to have redrawn the outline of this area despite we had carefully reviewed it. Also, in the linked documents from the note, there is no trace of the long name you added.

Could you please double check that name:fr and name:nl really exist? Thanks.

Hello,

I am afraid there is a little bit of an issue here. There are 3 containers, each with a different operator and each with a different material being recycled.

The app you are using (StreetComplete) shows the name of the operator when presenting the quest. Please pay attention to this, because you incorrectly filled wrong values.

We fixed your edit.

Hello,

Would you mind explaining what "bsm" means as a changeset description?

I see you moved some objects in a French town but also moved nodes from a service road in Cardiff, which imho creates something really strange
way/50479270
(node/642087541 comes from you and the editor reports that it warned you about a possible mistake here)

Have a nice day.

152555519 over 1 year ago

Hello,

I am referring to this object you created:
way/1291530282

Please observe that:

* The name tag is solely for the official name of an object (roads, shops have names cables usually don’t). "name=câble au sol inconnu" sounds really weird, this is a description.

* OSM is an international database, numerical values should be… numbers (obviously) and tags should be written in English.
"height=au sol" or "material=acier" will not be parsed correctly → use height=0 and material=steel to get the objects properly parsed in the database.

Hope this helps.

I’ve already restored a correct shape for some buildings + removed some of the tags that should not be added on individual objects (like postcode and city name). It takes some time to fix an existing layout, that is also why it’s better to do it right from the start. ;-)

155153652 over 1 year ago

Hello and welcome to OSM.
Thanks for adding houses but I think there is a problem here.
The software reports that you are tracing buildings on top of… aerial imagery.
This is not how we work.
If you do this, you will not be tracing the correct shapes. Aerial imagery is taken by aircrafts but every house is slightly distorted, and those pictures change every year, and the houses look a bit different with every release.
In Flanders, you should use "Digitaal Vlaanderen GRB" and draw on top of that. Those are the official shapes of buildings.
In the online editor you will find this under the Background button (right-hand side of your screen). Scroll down the list until you find the correct background.
Hope this helps.
Happy mapping.
