Changeset When Comment

@MapMarC9, would you please tell us which software gives you this unexpected result, and for what kind of vehicle (car? bicycle? on foot?).

We found no turn restriction in OSM data on this intersection, nor any access restriction or speed difference.

There are plenty of routing engines around, but normally they will always favour the shortest or fastest option.

If you right-click on the map you can test two routing engines (OSRM and GraphHopper), and they both route along the main boulevard, which is the correct solution. So does OsmAnd (a popular app for mobile phones).

Hello,
I think your changeset is incorrect.
We are currently reviewing maxspeed in Brussels and updating data. Contrary to popular belief, not 100% of streets will become 30-kph streets: Boulevard Maria Groeninckx-De Maylaan is one of the streets that will keep a 50-kph speed regime. New C43 roadsigns saying "50" are being installed along those roads.
I will revert your changes.

Hello,

If you do not mind, I would like to give more details about the rules about multilingual names you are referring to.

In reality, in Brussels, we use the "fr - nl" standard to fill the name tag for everything that comes from local or regional authorities: places, streets, public administration buildings, bus stops, etc.

But this one is a café. In that case we take the name chosen by the owner of the business. The display on the café itself only says "Le Roy d’Espagne". Even on the Dutch-speaking version of their website (https://roydespagne.be/nl/index.php) they do not translate the name of their business (e.g. "Welkom in Le Roy d'Espagne", "Waarom kiezen voor le Roy d'Espagne?").

It seems all name:* tags here are informal translations, one might go as far as remove them altogether (or move to alt_name). I suggest you restore the official name of this café.

Have a nice day.

Hello,
I wonder: does a monitoring station have to be attached to a way? Or should it be located on the display (beside the cycle track)?
The wiki says nothing about it. That will be helpful for other monitoring stations we have.

Nice first edit. I fixed a few mistakes, though.

Hello,
When a shop is gone, please do NOT delete the object.
Just remove the attributes that are no longer relevant (name, type of shop, opening hours…)
You can also use shop=vacant.
This will help a lot to preserve history. Deleted nodes are hard to recover.

Hello,
I am afraid your changeset introduced several mistakes. I surveyed the area and tried to fix everything I could. For instance, there are F103 signs on the pedestrian area in front of the cathedral now (legally making it a highway=pedestrian), or the new pedestrian crossings on Colonies are not where you thought they might be.
I strongly advise to survey before mapping, and above all, never blindly trust maps posted in the media, even when they look like coming from an official source: discrepancies between official plans and what is actually painted on the group are unfortunately frequent in Brussels.

Hello,

I saw "review_requested=yes" on your changeset. I would be happy to help you.

But I’m afraid the changeset title is incomprehensible. If you would be so kind to explain it a little more, it might be more useful.

I saw you moved some buildings. I would like to inform you the local community drew the outline of most building in Brussels very accurately, based on official Urbis numerical imagery provided by the authorities; drawing the outline of a building from aerial photos should be avoided because they are misaligned.

Hello,
Social housing is essentially ordinary housing rented at a lower price to people with little or no income.
I don’t think "amenity" is suitable in this case.

"Chemin des Serres": I couldn’t find a data source with it, and couldn’t find a Dutch translation either. I gather you live not far from there, maybe there is a sign somewhere.

Hello,
The two destinations you added here are just translations of the same place.
I suggest either to use current standard for multilingual names "La Cambre - Ter Kameren" or use destination:* tags
Same for the other tunnel in your next changeset.
What do you think?

Hello,
Just of curiosity, a question about Norway’s embassy.
country=NO
You changed it into NO;SJ
(Is it for Svalbard and Jan Mayen?)
A quick check showed that Norwegian embassies in neighbouring countries only use NO for the country. I don’t see why some territories should be mentioned specifically.

Same for Finland (you added AX, for Åland).

Perhaps I am missing something.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
Thanks for your feedback.

I didn’t mean to offend you about the "outdated map" stuff. It is very common to see other mappers rely on aerial imagery and fail to catch very recent stuff. ;-)

Perhaps it would be better to inspect elements one by one.

Buses: I kept your idea about drawing the bus track on its own along Gouv. Nens, it is fine.

The Nens/Carpentier intersection is probably awkward as it is now. When I surveyed it in September, it was still barred to eastbound traffic (only westbound buses could go there). Logically it should be open now. Since you have local knowledge of that part, feel free to update it.

About the pedestrian crossing: I’m not sure to get your point. We’re not discussing the merits of having chosen this spot for the crossing, are we? As for the map, I believe the location is correct, isnt’it?

Cycle track: this one? (way/850054837) Is it gone or changed?

Hello,
Please stop adding names to pedestrian areas.
Those areas were tagged with noname=yes for a reason.
The names are on the main roads across the area, but this area is for routing (and rendering). If you name it twice that creates all sorts of validation problems.
I’ll try to clean it up tomorrow.

It makes sense, indeed. Josaphat is different, it has so many car-free roads whereas other parks usually have alleys that are too small for vehicles.

In Brussels, SIAMU/DBDMH uses OSM data to route their fire trucks. AFAIK, they route over highway=pedestrian and ignore footways; therefore it might be useful for them.

Hello,
Just a little something, please try to add a more descriptive changeset title. Because your changeset spans over a large 3.25 km² area here (apparently you touched the landuse areas, I don’t know whether it was intentional). Some people might find it suspicious. It took me a while to figure out what happened here.

94655483 about 5 years ago

Hello,
The changeset is okay.

For benches, a suggested extra is the "backrest" tag (yes/no). A possible use case is someone writing an app where you can find a suitable bench. Not essential, only if you feel like providing it.

For bollards, do not bother with the `Allowed access' box in the iD simple editor.
By default, all routing engines assume that a bollard prevents entry for all users except for pedestrians and cyclists.

Sorry to break in again but this change is not the right way of doing.
A node (or "point" in the iD editor) contains a lot of information: this is the address for a building and more stuff, e.g. the UrbIS official reference.
If you delete it, the whole information disappears entirely from the map → housenumber 159 disappeared completely after your change.
The good way to do it is:
* if the hotel is gone, you go in the list of tags and you remove everything that relates to the hotel (tourism=hotel, the name, the phone number, etc.)
* but you keep the node, especially all the legal information, because that should stay.
In OSM, we can search for the history of every node, it helps to make statistics or see how a place changed over the years; this would not work if we deleted stuff and had to create a new one some time later.
Hope this helps.
(In the mean time I fixed this.)

Hello,
Welcome here! I understand this is one of your first edits but that was really ambitious for a start.
OSM is not just a pretty map but above all a database with many objects that have tags and are linked with each other. Deleting whole areas and redrawing from scratch as you did is the best way to break stuff; I have been trying to fix as much as I can.
If you want to learn, it would be wiser to start with smaller changes, avoid touching large structures (please do not play with landuse areas or underground infrastructure) and read the wiki or ask fellow mappers in case of doubt. Always ready to help if needed.
Many thanks.

(typo) with so many "roads" in it.
