Changeset When Comment

I think there's some confusion in the communication between us. If you don't mind, I'd like to edit it the way that I would do it and see what you think. I think you'll find that it makes perfect sense. But we'll see. Is that okay with you?

A few miles east of Pratt KS (just west of the 70th Avenue overpass) it becomes a motorway, which continues to the east until just west of 120th Avenue (where it should be trunk going east from there). It becomes a motorway again at the point where it becomes dual carriageway just west of the Northeast 40 Avenue interchange (you changed that bit to trunk). It then continues east as a motorway until just west of the South 263rd Street West intersection (again you mapped part of this as trunk). After many miles as trunk it becomes a motorway again just east of South 119th Street West (you made another odd edit downgrading it to trunk from there to about Seville Street, which should be reverted to motorway if it hadn't been that way originally). Thanks

I agree with your edits changing this highway from trunk to primary BUT I definitely disagree on your changing motorway to trunk. There are long stretches of highway that are completely access controlled - that is a motorway.

I don't have a problem with it, either, UNLESS Hawaii also has county route numbers (I haven't seen any so far). If there are county route numbers (i.e. CR 34) then I think the state routes SHOULD have HI in the ref.
And yes, plenty of state route shields don't have the name of the state in them. Iowa, Kansas, Virginia, North Carolina, etc.

I noticed you changed much of CO 40 along I-70 from secondary to tertiary. State routes are typically mapped as secondary, but in this case I think tertiary is fine, as the vast majority of traffic uses I-70. You left the streets running between 40 and 70 in Deer Trail and Agate as secondary; I will change them to tertiary as well.

Did you change any speed limits? I found one long segment of CO 40 north of Deer Trail with maxspeed of 45 mph, but I know it's 55 mph, so I will fix that too.

I will take care of it right now.
Thanks

No, it isn't. Sorry I forgot to change it back.

phidauex, sounds like you have some questions? Please do ask. Thanks

I don't know how good of a handle I have on it. It's the most complex road construction project I've ever dealt with in OSM. When closures are only for a few days or even a few weeks, I don't change access to "no" or highway to "construction", but if it's a few months or longer, I do. But times flies. I know I'm behind on a few updates. I have to be in the right mood and mentally very sharp to work on it.

I didn't check the Wiki before temporarily changing the street names. I just thought it was the best way to inform people.

Trying to keep up with all the changes in this project has been almost impossible and I'm usually running behind. Would you like to take over for me? Let me know!

I must have done that back in the "old days" before I knew about that. I had a bad habit back then of abbreviating names for short streets, so that the street name would render better for very short streets.

I thought it might have in order for the name to remain the same as people drove eastward. I didn't actually check it. Next time I'm up that way I will.

I'm also thinking that MLK Jr Blvd (previously Havana Way) might be entirely dual carriageway now between Ironton and Moline.

correction: Harry Flood Byrd, not Henry. :)

82689478 over 5 years ago

That is correct. There might even be rare instances of signs with the honorary name, such as "Henry Flood Byrd Memorial Highway" even though the actual name of that road is "Leesburg Pike".
There doesn't seem to be a key for such a name, so I would use alt_name unless it is already used.

I am helping with this HOTOSM task. You split a square into 4 sub-squares here but I don't know why. There really aren't any roads or buildings that I can see; and the only reason to subdivide a tile is if it has too many features to map.

Thanks for adding to and editing OSM, but I have a problem with you renaming C-470 as "Centennial Freeway". I can find no mention online anywhere about such a change. I live in the area. In fact, over the last two years or so it has been getting widened, adding TOLL/HOV lanes; I am certain that no one would approve of naming such a highway a "freeway". It also doesn't run through the suburb of Centennial; it actually runs through the suburbs of Lone Tree and Highlands Ranch. Since I have no doubt that this name change is wrong, I am going to go ahead and revert it to "C-470" which is what locals refer to it as.

I see what you mean, CrazyMonkeyBen. I was not aware that all of those had been changed to Trunk. I wonder if aboges26 is using traffic volume data or just picked out what they thought were very important? I also noticed that CR 110 had been added to the ref for CO 17 (shortcut off US 285 in the San Luis Valley down to Alamosa). I don't recall ever seeing CR 110 signed on that road. If it is technically a reference, it is an unsigned_ref as far as I know (unless the county or CDOT has added it, but I can't imagine why they would).

Thanks for responding. I'll study things a bit more and decide.

LOL - yeah I saw those too and wondered what was up with those...I'd be happy to change those.

BTW, in case you didn't hear, Robert St S is MN 3 once again (that's the main thing I was doing); I also re-added oldref = US 52 even though that seems like so long ago.

76243465 almost 6 years ago

I have been improving the mapping of Robert Street (mostly South) in Saint Paul (mainly to update ref back to MN 3) but couldn't help noticing that Shepard Road (CR 37) and Warner Road (CR 36) was changed from trunk to primary in your changeset. IMO the character of this road is definitely trunk, and it had been mapped as such for about 10 years (originally was secondary). I used to just go ahead and change things like this, but I've matured a lot in my mapping practices. Discuss?

76520408 almost 6 years ago

I am wondering whether or not you (aboges26) are the person who mapped CO 71 as highway = trunk. If so, could you explain why you think it should be trunk? I will not change anything. I'm just curious. And even though most of US 24 between Limon and Colo Spgs is 2-lane, I don't really have any problem with it being mapped as trunk.
