With footpaths, actual surveying is the only way to be 100% sure where they actually go. I've been filling in some of the footpath mapping from previous walks that I never mapped at the time.

Why have these paths been removed? I walked them in January, and they were clearly signed as permissive footpaths.

I don't know. I've no idea whether the pipework to the north is that pressure reduction station, and it's not somewhere you can get close up to.

Looks fine. You also need to maybe remove the HSBC website, and add one for GAILs is it has one

My opinion on the mapping of these "paths" is that while OSM might show a path going across an area of open access, it's not as if people rigidly just stick to exactly the same line on the map. UNLESS the grass is mown to encourage people to only follow that route. Waden Hill in particular to me has quite a wide area of grass that people use.
I can see that West Kennet Avenue is more of an issue, as the obvious route to walk along is between the lines of stones

Buccheri Barber is already mapped in the correct place, as it's actually slightly north of the railway viaduct, where the bus stop is

The mapping in this area is a bit confusing now, as it contains both where the footpaths actually go, and where they are "meant to go" as per the OS, even if they cross fences and fields of crops, which isn't correct.

Thanks for the reply. In terms of West Kennet Avenue, to an extent people walk down a certain path because they are "told to" by the grass being cut short or worn down...
As a final comment, I was slightly disappointed that the path over the hill has been removed, as it never seemed that busy or worn, and gives a wonderful view of Silbury Hill. Is there still open access here?Also, I notice that you've named a path "The Ridgeway" which isn't on the current National Trail. Is this part of a plan to divert the end of that walk?

I can now understand why you want to remove the paths completely, though from a "mapping" point of view, it's perhaps more helpful to leave the paths in, even if their access is removed, as visually (especially in the aerial photos) they'll still be there for a while and there's a danger people will try and add them back.
For interest, will there be any pedestrian route down West Kennet Avenue, as without the path won't people now be walking down the road to see the stones?

I'm confused as a number of footpaths between Avebury and the A4 have vanished, all of which were permissive and well used paths, including the one alongside West Kennet Avenue. I'm guessing it's this changeset which has deleted them? Is this a permanent change, and even if it was, it's better to leave them there with access removed, rather than the delete them
