Mapping forest trails

I think it depends on what the primary or biggest use is.
Is it wide enough for a 4x4 or could some vehicle drive down it? yes, then track.
No, Is it suitable for people to ride horses along? yes, then bridleway.
No, it might be too overgrown in places or have low branches crossing the path, it is a footway?

Failure

When I used my PDA I ended up using BeelineGPS. I think that's by the same makers as NoniGPS but also free and better (just harder to find if you haven't heard of it).

Also, if it's a bluetooth GPS your using to your PDA then you could use a java enabled phone instead. Lots of programs for phones and stupidly they're batteries tend to last longer. Like TrekBuddy.

Another addict

Beware, my OSM addiction came along and took away my Geocaching addiction before that went for.

But I love OSM, have fun. :o)

Trip to Falmouth and surrounding area

Ah, I didn't realise how small the time was between our trips to Falmouth, just assumed your stuff was quite old.
I've finished uploading my stuff, apart from one corrupt gpx file but I don't know if I will get round to looking at it.

The mapping companies get it wrong again...

Well done.
While I was on holiday by car we kept passing a new housing development and I considered getting my mum (the driver) to drop me off to map for a couple of hours. Adding something within a short time is cool cause it brings up the point how awesome us OSM mappers are!

Lots of dragons to discover

But dragons are fun :o)

Data Overlay

Ooo very interesting, I wouldn't of known if it wasn't for your post.
I'm currently waiting for some edits to upload on a slow network connection, I can see some of the nodes it's uploaded on the data overlay although they won't be on the base layer until Wednesday.

Springfield, Queensland is on the map

I think there are quite a few Springfields in the USA and I think it might of even been picked for The Simpsons as a very common/generic town.
I'm from the UK by the way, don't think we have any Springfields.

Getting Started

Lots of us read it :o)
(via Planet OSM for me)

Hampton Court

Thanks I had forgotten to look over Hampton Court as I tried to map Hampton. I'm back home from uni in a week and a half so I might go over the gardens and palace a bit.

i want a GPS

I recently wrote about the NaviGPS (now renamed Genie GPS) on my blog http://www.livingwithdragons.com/2008/06/sadly-shopping-for-a-gps

I'll be doing a better review, including other options, maybe next week or the week after. I'm pretty much an OSM adict so I will need to make my decision soon so I have a GPSr again.

Plant Nursery

There's a farm right by Heathrow Airport
osm.org/?lat=51.4617&lon=-0.4208&zoom=15&layers=B0FT

It's more of a tourist attraction than a working farm (well local tourists). Lots of animals, pigs, horses, the like. Great childhood memories from the few times I've been there.

Hounslow and surrounding areas

I did a tiny bit of Hampton while I was home for Easter, saw where Hampton meets Hounslow had been mapped amazingly.

Rothwell , Northamptonshire , UK

I'm attempting to mix mapping and geocaching, but I don't think there is much uptake.

Mapper audio note system

Just talk in an undercover detective fashion, acting sly/secretive in your mind. Might be a bit of fun instead of feeling stupid. Just be ready to stop when police or such people are around!

Durham, Maidstone, Dartford & Swanley review

By the way, I'm mapping Durham quite a lot: http://www.livingwithdragons.com
And organising a mapping party in June: osm.wiki/index.php/Durham_mapping_party

Connection timed out

If you don't finish a JOSM upload, do File -> Save As.
Later you can open that file and try again, JOSM knows what it's uploaded and what it still has to do, you just have to save the file.

University of Nottingham main campus

why not building=hall_of_residence and it will render?

Leeds Micro-mapping session last Sunday

Thanks for these lessons, hopefully helpful for my upcoming party:
osm.wiki/index.php/Durham_mapping_party

Not that far from Leeds?

Who should you trust?

You could change it, but also add old_name=Carseview Drive.

A month ago I was using OSM where someone else had mapped and a road name was wrong. Actually I knew it had been right when the road/houses were built, but I guess they decided to completly change the name when they finished building. (mentioned in http://www.livingwithdragons.com/2008/01/correcting-the-map)
