I would recommend a Garmin eTrex H, you could buy it in germany in the webshop of bergzeit for about 89 Euro. I use it too and it works really fine, plus its pretty easy to make yourself a cheap connection cable to the pc (there is no cable shipped with the etrex and the original cables are bloody expensive!).

its the little brother of the garmin eTrex legend HCx which you could borrow for a weekend of mapping with your friends at http://www.openstreetmap.de/gps-verleih/

I recently wrote about the NaviGPS (now renamed Genie GPS) on my blog http://www.livingwithdragons.com/2008/06/sadly-shopping-for-a-gps

I'll be doing a better review, including other options, maybe next week or the week after. I'm pretty much an OSM adict so I will need to make my decision soon so I have a GPSr again.
