about 7 years ago | Feel free to look for anything else I might have missed! I'm trying to get highway 45 updated all the way from the town of State Line, Mississippi, to I 20. I have (mediocre) street-level imagery in the northbound direction, along with a bunch of voice notes I recorded in OsmAnd. I hope to be able to capture southbound imagery in the next few months. Once I get a couple of good southbound passes, and at least one good, clear northbound pass, I'm planning to start doing my Tiger review of the highway.
about 7 years ago | Hi GerdP. Thanks for catching that--I must have tabbed out of the value field too quickly and iD didn't autofill the whole field. I usually catch it when that happens. It doesn't look very residential to me at all--there are no houses on the road. Thus, I've changed it to Unclassified, which is the general guidance for a road in this scenario. I also changed that highway=residential stub to highway=service, service=driveway. Again, thanks for catching my error!
over 7 years ago | Hi Jan, the earlier keys were my doing, and are likely the incorrect ones. Georgia definitively puts a space in the name, so it is "Peach Pass" and not PeachPass (like Florida's SunPass without a space). And since nothing else is capitalized in tag value fields (the credit card is written amerian_express in OSM and not American_Express), I switched to nc_quick_pass instead of using capital letters. I documented these payment methods with the "new" spelling in the wiki, and will try to find and change the older ones.

over 7 years ago | Hi. It must be a typo, because I don't know of a key named that. I'll fix it the next time I'm at a computer. Thanks for catching it.

almost 8 years ago | Hi, Ojlee, welcome to OSM. I saw that you've started adding things to the map, and wanted to offer a tip. A house is properly tagged as building=house, not area=yes. Also, you can "square" the house by selecting one of the sides, and then pressing S on your keyboard. Happy mapping!
almost 8 years ago | Hi, southgablesdental. I noticed that you made a recent addition to OSM, and...to be blunt, it's pretty bad. Most of the tags are so improper, that on one will be able to find you, or gain any useful information from your information. Please let me know if you'd like help correcting it.

almost 8 years ago | Hi, Daniele, welcome to OSM! I noticed that you made some new additions in Starkville, and they look like a promising start. I wanted to offer a couple of tips, though, on how you can make things better. Remember that most buildings have squared-off corners, so be sure to square your buildings when appropriate. The iD editor can help you with that--just select part of the building outline (NOT one of the corner nodes) and press the S key on your keyboard. The same key will straighten a line, if you're drawing a straight road, for example. Be sure to take advantage of the online help (press H) to see all of the available shortcuts and helpful features. Again, welcome to OSM, and happy mapping!

almost 8 years ago | Hi, CovetMedSpa, welcome to OSM. We always appreciate it when a business is interested in becoming known on the map, and encourage that. However, your recent addition of your business seems to be very poorly positioned, as best I can tell. Would you mind repositioning your node to a better spot, closer to your actual business site?
almost 8 years ago | Hi, East Cobb News, welcome to OSM. I noticed that you made two new changes to the map, and...there seem to be a couple of problems with them. The first is that the exit lane out of Jimmy John's has been bent backwards, and isn't well positioned any more. The second is that you added an empty node to the Jimmy John's restaurant itself, and I can't figure out why. Would you mind letting me know what you're trying to accomplish, and perhaps I can help you improve your edits?

almost 8 years ago | Hi James! Welcome to OSM. You requested a review of your edit, so I thought I'd provide some feedback. Basically, instead of mapping each parking section as a separate parking lot (I think I counted 29!), the entire parking lot should just be one big area. Here's an example of what I mean: way/288863405 There *are* circumstances where it might be better to map parking area separately, and you can see that by looking just northeast and southwest of the example above, in the same shopping center. Basically, because those parking areas really are physically separated from the main lot, it made sense to draw them separately. Finally, I note that the service road around the parking lot has the "name=Drive Way" tag on it. Generally, the name tag is only for an officially-designated name, such as on a street sign. If there isn't such a sign showing "Drive Way" as the name...then that tag shouldn't be there. I know you put a lot of effort into drawing all those parking areas, and I hate to throw cold water on you, but...that's just how we map them on OSM. Please accept the above comments in the helpful spirit in which they were intended! And...happy mapping! --jack
