Big River and A Slow Boat To Belém

Following your trip from Germany. Nice read. Looking forward for sequels. Thank you for letting us participate!

Romanizing endonyms and properly filling the name:en in Ukraine

Very interesting read and very well done!

This could be generalized for other country-combinations as well, I think, and put into the Wiki as a general rule of thumb, for how to handle this aspect of OSM.

Thank you for the insight!

Rooftop area Kathmandu Valley

Hi DevendraCopenhagenUni,

what is the intention of your diary entry? Is this just an information? If you have any questions on how to do this, you could use the OSM community forum with your OSM account and ask there.

https://community.openstreetmap.org/

If I was to do something like this I would go along this path:

1.) Check how good the coverage of rooftop mapping is in the targeted area comparing OSM and satellite imagery. From this you can go 2 ways:

1.1) Map missing rooftops in the area or

1.2) Find a factor to be used on the found result (About half of the rooftops mapped -> Factor is 2)

2.) Load OSM rooftop data for the targeted area in QGIS (or other GIS) software and use the GIS functions to find the areal sum of all the items you are interested in.

All the best, Heinz

A Reflection on the Map in Mississippi - Current Issues, Projects, and the Future

Nice work, MoiraPrime! For helpers, how about contacting schools in your vicinity and offering training and working groups? There could be lots of young people interested in this kind of paste time if they knew about it. Kind regards from Germany and happy mapping!

Diary Entry #1

Hey, Nahomi, this is a nice and promising little teaser for your “geography blog” (if you intend to continue, that is). I definitely look forward to read some of the stories you have in mind! They may even be nice little bedtime stories for the kids, if you keep it simple. Nice style of writing. Please continue!

Cartography an introduction

You can find the same link on the website of the British Cartographic Society here: https://www.cartography.org.uk/thematic-mapping

It’s apparently the first edition of the book and a new edition is available for sale at their shop.

Nobody seems to know where Tesla gets its map data for speed limits

If Tesla uses OSM for the navigation and map display, shouldn’t the OSM copyright notice be shown somewhere, at least in the car’s manual?

Your problems regarding the speed limit seems a common one for Tesla drivers as shown in this discussion.

My #MapaTime experiences

Hello nclnnmclld,

it is nice to see that you and your co-students have fun in using and improving OpenStreetMap charts. Since you seem to enjoy helping people in need I would like to mention the humanitarian open street map project to you and your mapping friends. If you did not learn about it in class you might want to have a look at https://tasks.hotosm.org/ where even as a beginner you have the possibility to support international help organizations conquering disasters and virus outbreaks by mapping in OSM.

Kind regards and all the best to you all from Germany, HeBri

Coastline I edited is not being updated by the renderer

Hi compdude,

as far as I know from the German discussion group your observation is completely normal.

The coastlines are updated quite infrequenly. All changes to the coastlines are checked and applied manually because they are critical. Since this is a lot of work it takes its time until changes are taken over into the map.

So you may simply have to be even more patient.

Kind regards from Germany, Heinz

Quality of river mapping

Hi Gerhardus, just to let you know: In the German weekly notice it says that http://aerial.openstreetmap.org.za/ now provides areal images of South Africa with 50cm resolution. I haven’t had a look myself so I don’t know in what flooding state these were taken. But may be these are useful for you? Just to make sure you get this information. Kind regards from Germany Heinz

Severe flooding

Gerhardus, these two links might help you:
