Tach allerseits - ich denke mal nicht, daß das Projekt eingeschlafen ist, da ständig neue Tracks hinzukommen. Allerdings ist hier wohl jahrelang nix gepostet worden, so daß ich den Staub mal aufschütteln will.
Als Neueinsteiger finde ich es nicht schön, daß man der gerenderten Karte die "weißen Flecke" nicht ohne weiteres ansieht. Ein Tool, welches die Karte je nach der Menge der vorhandenen GPS-Tracks markiert, wäre klasse.

Daher von Zuhaus angefangen und schon mal die ersten 3 Straßen ausgemessen.

Ich habe eine Bitte an Euch: Dank der Veröffentlichungen in diesen Mainstream-Medien leidet leider die Qualität von OSM in den deutschsprachigen Gebieten, weil von so manchem einfach nur drauf los gearbeitet wird. Potlatch z. B. hat einen Trainingsmodus - nutzt ihr diesen nicht, macht ihr die Datenbank kaputt. Oder noch besser: Nutzt nicht Potlatch, sondern JOSM. Und lest vor allem die Dokumentation im Wiki.

Ja, es sind viele Straßen und Wege dazugekommen in diesen Tagen. Leider davon aber sehr viele vollkommen unbrauchbar. In Hameln z. B. habe ich jetzt einige Stunden damit verbracht, das Unheil eines Einzelnen zu kitten - in der Hoffnung, dass wenigstens die Lage der neu gezeichneten Wege stimmen...

Und noch eine Bitte: Wenn ihr Post habt (Inbox): Bitte lest diese Nachrichten!

Das ist jetzt kein Vorwurf an die Neulinge, sondern nur der verzweifelte Versuch, mindestens das bisherige Datenniveau des Projektes zu halten.

I wrote an article for the UK Mensa Magazine and it has been published in the latest edition. This will hopefully get a few more volunteers for the project.

This evening we're mapping Stratford, East London (Come along!)

Not many people signed up for this. I thought listing on upcoming.org would be a good way to get the message out to a certain demographic. And I added a newbies description on the wiki page there (which we can reuse) But I didn't think much beyond that.

But today I got an email from someone who had heard about the event through a friend of mine
"I am currently working on an art project which will culminate in a series of newspapers called the Stratford Grapevine to be distributed from Stratford station during 2008 ....I was wondering if you would like to contribute something about it for the newspaper? Some photos taken on the night, and maybe a report on what you're doing and how it's gone? It sounds like it could be a really interesting addition for the paper" - Lucy Harrison

So that looks like an interesting but slightly bizarre promotions opportunity after the event.

But this word-of-mouth effect got me thinking more about promotion. There's bazillions of local Stratford youth/culture/community/development organisations who we should really have sent messages to, to tell them about the event a few weeks beforehand.

Obviously it takes a special kind of person to be interested in wandering around gathering street names on an evening, so it can be a hard sell, but if enough little messageboards and event listings include a link to us, maybe we can get the message out to a few people who might come along.

I've met some people from Germany at LinuxTag OSM booth and Berlin meeting at Friday night.

It was a cosy meeting with peoples known from talk-de list, the OSM booth peoples and native Berliner. We could interchange advices and hints. We talked about tagging schema, our prefered way to map and what we are missing most (The need for OSM software developpers for instance).

I'm hopefully we can repeat that at next LinuxTag.

Did some work yesterday in Horsham, it's taking ages to get this town mapped, despite occasional contributions from a number of mappers. Anyone else live near the area?

For anyone else mapping in the area, I've added a lot of stub roads with names that I went past but didn't have time to map fully.

Happily spent my evening learning how to add a footpath that makes about a 1 mile loop mostly out of site of houses, yet only a few minutes off the expressway, 15 minutes from downtown Philadelphia.

Trying to reverse the one way rd in Provincetown, MA. I'll see next week if the change takes...

I did a first approach to the Gürbetaler Höheweg in Switzerland, south of Bern (From Kehrsatz to Mühlenturnen). A really nice trail. Unfortunaltely, my Garmin Venture Cx had problems at some times to keep the contact to the satellits. So, there are missing some parts.
I'm going to map it during week.

Ein Artikel im SPIEGEL hat mich auf OSM aufmerksam gemacht und mich gleich begeistert. Nach erfolgreicher Anmeldung habe ich heute meinen ersten Weg etwas fernab der Zivisation angelegt - wo eventuelle Anfängerfehler nicht sofort störend auffallen ;-) Es geht um den Wanderweg "Olivetrail" im Naukluft-Gebirge in Namibia. Wir sind den Weg im Dezember 2007 gewandert - absolut empfehlenswert!

Bin im Außendienst, viel im Auto unterwegs. Das Autonavi kann keine Tracks aufzeichnen. (Oder? VW Touran RNS510?)
Wäre es dem OSM-Projekt hilfreich, mir von einem anderen User ein entsprechendes Gerät auszuleihen und nur die Tracks einzuspielen? Wer würde eines verleihen?
Zum Nachbearbeiten der Tracks würde mir die Zeit fehlen, aber die Straßen wären schon mal erfasst.

Nachdem ich am 30.Mai 2008 durch einen SPIEGEL-Artikel auf die Seite gestoßen bin und einen Account angelegt habe, habe ich mich ein wenig mit dem Projekt beschäftigt und danach versucht, BSGPS+BSGPSPDA zu installieren. Der Hauptrechner hängt sich oft auf und der PDA gibt Fehlermeldungen aus. Ich werde es später mit anderen Programmen probieren. Da ich heute einen freien Tag hatte, wollte ich die Gelegenheit wahrnehmen, etwas zu OSM beizutragen. Ausgehend von meinem Wohnort zeichnete ich Straßen ein, die ich regelmäßig benutze. Als Grundlage dienten Yahoo-Satellitenbilder. Schade, dass die stellenweise so lückenhaft sind, aber irgendwie krieg ich schon noch einen GPS-Tracker ans Laufen. Wär doch gelacht.
Macht jedenfalls tierisch Spaß Lücken zu füllen!

I drove from my work place at home to check how openstreetmap work

I've recently got reintroduced to OSM after seeing it a long time ago. This time I was hooked. I started updating the map of regions I know pretty well. Using existing GPS tracks to fill in roads and also mockup the map for my locality.

Unfortunately I do not have a GPS yet so I can't contribute with actual maps with exact locations. If someone in the region of Netanya has a GPS to donate it would be nice if I could actually map things properly. I'm essentially waiting for the OpenMoko based Neo FreeRunner to be available so that I'll only need one gadget.

Had just enough time before dark last night to knock off another small quadrant of Birmingham in the Newtown/Lozells area. It has to be one of the most deprived areas of the city. Most of the roads were bounded by derelict flats. I saw one murder location (Nehemiah Bryce in New Croft) and one couple sleeping in a tent in an open garage a short distance away in Rodway Close. Needless to say I'm glad I've reduced the remaining area to be mapped somewhat although I'm saddened that we have areas of our great city that clearly need so much TLC, to improve the area, to make it safer and to offer something to those that live in it. Thankfully the guys playing 5 a-side footy at the leisure centre nearby had something positive to shout about, perhaps all is not lost.
