I keep discovering forests that I didn't know about. Today I discovered several more to add to my Talley :-)

I knew about Talley Abbey and the lakes, but I didn't realise that there was a whole forest to explore just across the road. Since at least one of the paths was blocked due to ongoing operations, this needs to be revisited at some time. Also today was a bit windy for doing too much exploration near trees. The minor road from the Abbey back to the "main" road was blocked by a fallen tree, so no mapping there...

The Brechfa Forest seems to be a nice part of the world, and one thats completely escaped attention from OSM, so as Arne would say, "I'll be back!"

A visit to my parents this weekend meant it was time to map a bit more of Crewkerne. The weather wasn't entirely cooperative, but I managed to get a chunk done on Saturday afternoon.

One or two of the roads off Furland Road will need another visit as the GPS was playing up a bit in the bottom of the valley, especially as the number of satellites available choose that moment to drop down to nine.

I managed to capture a new trace of Furland Road itself in the car on the way home today though so that should be good, but some of the roads off it are little more than estimates - they should be topologically correct but the position and alignment may not be accurate.

Some time ago I have missed a good map of the main bus routes in Curitiba. The public transportation system in Curitiba is good, but there is no good map available online, even for the "biarticulado" lines.

I have mapped the path for almost all biarticulado routes. Next, the bus stations and stops need to be mapped.

Maybe in the future we can have all Curitiba bus lines (not only the main lines) mapped on OSM, and a good web frontend to see them. :)

I am currently staring out of the window looking at the teeming rain resigned to the fact that I will not get out on the bike today. However the weekend started well and I managed to get out on foot and record some more footpaths in the Bushey / Oxhey area. Yesterday afternoon during a break in the weather I got out on the bike to record 40 or so names for roads already mapped in the Harrow Weald / Belmont area including a few amenities such as post boxes, bus stops etc. Right, enough staring out of the window, I'm going to venture out to get a newspaper and record at least a couple of bus stops and a chemist on the way!

I went out today on the bank holiday to do some more mapping of the parts of Dewsbury that my mugging last week stopped. Lots of people about I thought, nice and safe.

I arrived at crows nest park osm.org/?lat=53.68836&lon=-1.6491&zoom=16&layers=0BFT and was turned away by police. I looked at the BBC news website and found this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/7419966.stm

I am basically not going near that end of Dewsbury for a while...

Decided to have a ramble late yesterday afternoon/early evening as the weather was significantly better than expected [by the Met office]. So, as I have new boots that I'm still breaking in and have only done short 5-8 mile walks [about 5 so far] in them whilst they adjust to my feet, I thought it was time for a longer walk to really test them out.

Starting from north Horsham I walked part way up Old Holbrook and took the first footpath on the right; leading towards Rusper Road, which I crossed and then proceeded up Bush Lane and on to the road at the end as if heading towards Faygate. Lots of birds about including Wagtails, Robins, Chaffinches, Sparrows, Magpies, Pigeons and Seagulls too. As several footpaths round here hadn't yet been mapped I took the second footpath on the right which followed the field boundary and the rail-track before crossing the line and used the footpath that leads up to the A264 [near the Cherry Tree pub].

After crossing the A264 I headed up Tower Hill towards Colgate [no suitable footpaths were available]; passed the Scout Camp on the way up as well as the water tower before finally heading downhill towards the Green Dragon pub in Colgate.

I then crossed the road and took the private road/footpath which skirts the pub's carpark. Following this until it lead to the footpath I was also planning to map. This heads downhill towards some ponds [where I spooked some Mallards] and some very nice woodland before heading up hill towards Grouse Road. A large female red deer was seen bounding across the open heathland just before I turned down the footpath to head towards St. Leonards Forest.

After cycling through for months, I finally did some clean-up of the map around Südwestkorso. It's one of these typical Berlin dual-carriageways, in this case with parking down the middle. From the aerial photography, it's quite difficult to make out how it intersects adjacent residentials, in particular at what points you can cross the middle strip. These details were very much wrong. Furthermore, a few neighbouring one-way streets were missing. I do wonder how the street names were obtained.

I'm guessing a lot of the dual-carriageways in Berlin need similar clean-up with respect to intersections.

The fact that I travelled through countless times without realising there was work left to do does give some credit to the opinion that aerial mapping without surveying is evil. The map just looks too complete afterwards. But there should be better ways to show incompleteness than not mapping at all.

By the way, having the map in front of you on your GPS makes it a lot easier to spot such mistakes. I doubt I'd have noticed just from looking at the slippy map.

Cleaned up the 405/520 interchange East of Seattle. There was a great version worked on by a minimum of 3 OSMers that was all tangled up with the TIGER import data.

The USGS UrbanArea WMS helped a lot:

http://terraservice.net/ogcmap.ashx?version=1.1.1&request=GetMap&Layers=urbanarea&Styles=&SRS=EPSG:4326&format=image/jpeg&

I also tried to correct all the layers and added bridge tags. Waiting to see how it turns out in Osmarender.

Whilst uploading and drawing my map area - Nha Trang City-Vietnam, I am in a conflicting situation. As here are less standards and the remaining are less enforced, there is no such thing as a basic rule, how infra structure is beeing built.
Residential streets here might have 4 lanes, which are in totally up to 24 !!!! wide, where else, motorways may be partially the eqivalent of a british Bridleway on some stretches. Also, main roads in villages, often are up to 20 meters wide.
My question to fellow members - map according to the function of the street, e.g residential, or follow a the map guide, which describes the residential as less than 4 meters?
Example:
Until now, I have drawn a mixture out of both, which might not to accurate. For example our Beach Promenade here has at least 2 lanes in each direction and is 24 meters on the smallest places, has middle barriere and equals a UK motorway. Major differences: speed limits of 30 km/h. On traffic - anything can go on it, from ox with trailer, via push bike up to amerian trucks. Until now, I have mapped this one a secondary road.
