Tepian Narosa
- Along Tepian Narosa on the Batang Kuantan River, spectators crowded the national pacu jalur (longboat race) on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. This year’s national race was joined by 228 participants from various regions, ranging from Indragiri Hulu and West Sumatra to Jambi. They competed for prizes including cash, livestock, and farming equipment.[1]
- When the racing season arrives, residents of Ketaping Jaya Village, Kuantan Singingi, Riau, work together to prepare everything. They set up kajang (special tents for the race participants). Once the tents are up, the women quickly cook rice, fry tilapia, and prepare cabbage dishes to share with the racing athletes. “Every year we do this, bringing supplies to cook. We stay here as long as our team hasn’t lost,” said a local resident.
- In the Dutch colonial era, several historical records mention that pacu jalur was once held as a tribute to Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. The competition began in 1903 and has been held annually ever since.

Access to Obi Island is only possible by sea. The sea journey takes around 2.5 to 3 hours from Bacan Island, which is relatively close to Obi and has an airport. An alternative travel route is from Jakarta to Ternate, then by propeller plane to Oesman Sadik Airport
Oesman Sadik Airport in Labuha City, Bacan Island, and continuing by sea to Obi Island.
