Why data items are involved?

Why {{ valuelink | aeroway | control_center }} cannot just link to to Tag:aeroway=control_center without involving any data items? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 16:33, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

Note that simple link is broken in https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:aeroway without any valid reason just because some data item is not existing Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 16:34, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

If the data item does not exist, maybe we should at least give a small link to create the missing data item, or at least clarifying what a data item is. --Valeriobozz (talk) 08:28, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

Alternative approach is {{Valuelink2}}: this template uses {{LangPrefix}} with additional unconditional link to English version. {{Valuelink2|building|yes}} => yes [en]. Something B (talk) 10:59, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

Creation of data item

I'm indeed stuck on the error "Data item not found. Check your spelling." and I'm now interested in creating the data item about Tag:leisure=sunbathing. I've some knowledge about Wikidata and Wikibase, but zero knowledge about its usage in OSM.

In short: maybe this error should have a link explaining what is a data item, or how to create a data item. What do you think about? --Valeriobozz (talk) 08:39, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
