Why description given here is basically describing surface=compacted? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 16:17, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
I think surface compacted is referring to a maximum particle size of 20mm and fine gravel a maximum of 1mm. In common English usage both surfaces compact because of a mix of particle size. Lots of confusion and tag misuse because the tags are inconsistent with English Tonyf1 (talk) 19:29, 24 November 2022 (UTC) I have added 5mm for fine and 20mm for compacted Tonyf1 (talk) 04:19, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- I'm also quite concerned about it. For surfaces of compacted fine gravel (i.e. fine gravel/grit which is NOT loose ),
surface=compactedhas always been used -- there would've been no need to add the synonym for it. On the other hand,surface=fine_gravelwas in my experience always used for gravel/grit that is smaller thansurface=gravel(AKA "ballast"), but which is as loose as it (i.e. cca. 3-6mm loose fine gravel/grit)/ Tag:surface=gravel#Tag_history has some history about it. But by the time someone "documented" it on the wiki, they seem to have lost that (possibly because in some parts of the worldsurface=compactedis called "gravel road") --mnalis (talk) 15:54, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
Hi Mnalis. Sorry if I have lost meaning. Maybe you could add a few photos. Tonyf1 (talk) 05:01, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
