Talk:Tag:man made=wildlife crossing

Hello, I taged some wildlife crossings on the LGV Rhin-Rhône but they don't appear on the map. I taged them as written here. Does this tag not work? Thanks for any answer and sorry for my bad english. --Hoff1980 11:36, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Not all kinds of features appear on every map, because the maps would be overloaded. It depends on the map purpose what is rendered and what is not. E.g. hiking routes are rendered in hiking maps but ignored in skiing maps, while for skiing maps it's the other way round. Wildlife crossings are certainly considered irrelevant for general purpose maps. All over this, the tagging is not approved. man_made=wildlife_crossing is just a proposed feature, with only ~100 occurrencies by now. fish ladders

Fish ladders should be waterway=* in the first place, either waterway=fish_ladder or waterway=(something else) + man_made=wildlife_crossing. You could use a subkey wildlife_crossing=* to distinguish wildlife_crossing=ecoduct, wildlife_crossing=amphibia, and wildlife_crossing=fish. --Fkv (talk) 05:14, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Agree, they are waterways in the first place. Also, some fish_passes may be notable enough that it may make sense to draw their outline with natural=water. RicoZ (talk) 13:03, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

ecoducts

Maybe ecoducts should be bridge=ecoduct, or you view them as normal ground surface with tunnels beneath and use man_made=wildlife_crossing without a bridge=* tag at all. --Fkv (talk) 05:14, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

wildlife_crossing=rope_bridge

There are two types of rope bridges I'm aware of in use. "flat bridge" and "box/tunnel". With a flat bridge animals walk along the bridge but may be exposed to predator birds, with a box/tunnel bridge animals can walk inside (with some protection from predator birds) or outside. At the moment I've been tagging both kinds as wildlife_crossing=rope_bridge mainly because it's hard to tell from the ground which one it is, but it would be nice to have tags for both kinds. –Aharvey (talk) 02:48, 26 June 2025 (UTC)

Categorizing by structure makes a different format wildlife_crossing=bat_bridge for the wildlife served

• wildlife_crossing=squirrel_crossing Squirrel_bridge
• wildlife_crossing=small_animal_rope_bridge

I would suggest wildlife_crossing=rope (or eg wildlife_crossing=exposed vs wildlife_crossing=enclosed with wildlife_crossing:structure=rope for your question) + animal=possum , and change the other to some wildlife_crossing=* + animal=bat
