Meaning of this tag

line=* was defined to indicate a particular usage (and consecutively a particular shape) of power lines, often in substations in opposition of standard lines in the country.
As I understand this value, it is intended to describe a standard power line with a given proximity with portals or substation endpoints. It doesn't imply a particular usage but eventually a particular topology role.
To me, another key than line=* should be used to achieve that. substation value doesn't sound good : it doesn't define what the line is. A line can't be a substation, can you? Fanfouer (talk) 18:22, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Agreed, but usage=* isn't the same concept. Lines like ones connecting to substations will get transmission or distribution. I'm wondering if it woth tagging Tagging lines that connect to substation because it is actually reflected by topology or geographic analysis. Currently it clutters line=*. Forgot to mention service=*, could be another possibility. I definitely don't want this to tagged under line=* either. As someone who only maps basic substation info so far, it seems to me it is still worthy to tag this explcitily. They are related in a significant and functional manner. Granted, electricity lines are usually easy to detect and distinguish, but the poential usefulness remains. -- Kovposch (talk) 03:28, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

I possibly don't exactly get why mapping such line as connecting to a substation is meaningful. Sometimes, lines remain single-circuit for miles and merge with a second one on a split tower.
