Talk:Tag:generator:source=wind
How do I tag a wind power generator, that does not have a propeller but looks like a tiltes squerril case blower? It has a vertical rotation axis. (H-Darrieus-Rotor)? --Lulu-Ann 14:46, 5 August 2011 (BST)
- That would be Tag:generator:type=vertical_axis --Scruss (talk) 21:45, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
Direction
Which side should I consider the front when tagging direction=*, the side with the rotor or the one with the box? --Jolesh (talk) 19:22, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
name
Should wind turbine nodes have a name=* tag? If so, should it be the name of the wind farm, with ref=* as the turbine number within that farm if known, or should the wind farm turbine number be used as the name (with or without the farm name as a prefix)? --Sbdavis (talk) 22:53, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
- A wind turbine nodes should have a
ref=*but not an aname=*. The wind farmpower=plant+plant:source=windmay have aname=*.--geozeisig (talk) 06:55, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
single-generator plants
I stumbled upon some places where the area around individual wind generators is mapped as a power plant, e.g. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/814776264 or more generally https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/2deb . That seems to go against the suggestions of this wiki. Should these be re-tagged as just an industrial area? For those interested in power plants, they are not very easy to filter out without potentially losing relevant data too (a spatial query removing sites with just a single generator would be needed). No offshore imagery
Mention what imagery is needed to map offshore wind turbines.
All the imagery layers in iD don't extend beyond the coastline too much. Jidanni (talk) 13:40, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
