Has some use https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/search?q=surface%3Dstepping_stones and might be a better option especially when compared with stepping_stones which aren't fords so won't have the ford tag, it provides some consistency. --Aharvey (talk) 13:13, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

Difficulty and uneveness

I'm wondering if this tag can be used for "natural" stepping stones, essentialy river crossings on hikes where you cross the river by walking/climbing over stones that are naturally in the river. If so, can we use a dificulty tag or sac_scale ? How to mark the difference between clearly man made stepping stones that are nice and smooth and rough rocks where it is recommended or necessary to keep balance with your hands?
