one sided cycleway=lane
Do you know what kind of tagging was used for cases where lane was only on one side, if it was not cycleway=lane and it was not cycleway:left=lane and it was not cycleway:right=lane? See http://taghistory.raifer.tech/#***/cycleway/lane&***/cycleway%3Aleft/lane&***/cycleway%3Aright/lane&***/cycleway%3Aboth/lane Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 18:19, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
Exclusive use?
"an inherent part of the road, but set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles" The picture shows non-exclusive cycle lanes, this is a very common layout in Nederland. They are not "set aside", they are not mandatory but advisory for cyclists, and other traffic can use these parts of the road as needed. In fact, on many roads the advisory bicycle lanes are very wide and what's left of the road is not even wide enough for a car!--Peter Elderson (talk) 07:52, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- I agree. The picture in the description box doesn't fit and must be changed. --Chris2map (talk) 11:32, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- I think the problem is not the image but the description.
cycleway=laneis not exclusively for bicycles, as the value includes both advisory and exclusive bike lanes. The picture is also used on thecycleway=*page to illustratecycleway=lane+cycleway:lane=advisory(correct, as far as I know).
So we should change the first sentence to say "primarily for the use of bicycles" instead of "for the exclusive use of bicycles". Supaplex030 (talk) 09:45, 23 July 2025 (UTC)- Two opposite opinions! I changed the text first, then after some more thought I undid the change. I now think that the value shared_lane indicates to other drivers that cyclists can use the car lane or carriageway, while suggesting to cycists where to ride. The value lane indicates to motorists that other lanes are exclusively for them, and that they should not use the cycle lane. It indicates to cyclists that the lane is exclusively for cyclist, and they should not encounter motorists in that lane. So I think several wiki pages and tables should be adapted to make the separation clear. At least, the pictures for =lane should not show the Dutch example, but the German example with the solid separation line.--Peter Elderson (talk) 14:12, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
