- This is unclear because semi-formal crossing locations with dropped kerbs and tactile blocks can still be called "informal" officially, lacking mandatory markings and signs (perhaps except a crossing pedestrian warning sign). Contrast this with street corners, where some laws consider any intersection as having crossings legally.
Another case that has to be considered is whollyhighway=path+informal=yesdesire paths crossing a formal road. Is thiscrossing=informal? Technically the part of crossing may be considered non-informal too. --- Kovposch (talk) 06:51, 1 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Langläufer: did you read the part with "...this tag is used without highway=crossing because..." of the "How to map" section? Does it need further clarification, or do you have counter arguments to those displayed there?
- @Kovposch: What matters IMHO is the state of the crossing itself, not that of the path and/or road. While in vast majority of the cases (in my area) informal path crossing the formal road will be just
crossing=informalas there were no human intentional changes to infrastructure (e.g. no lowered kerbs, painted zebra, traffic lights etc.) to make ithighway=crossing+crossing=*; I can envision cases wherepath=desire(orhighway=path+informal=yes) does eventually lead to municipality adding an officialhighway=crossing(e.g. painting a zebra or adding speed barriers around) even if they did not make the path itself formal (e.g. to lower the death toll, but with no intention of wasting money on supporting that informal path formally) --mnalis (talk) 21:20, 9 June 2023 (UTC)- thanks for pointing on "is used without highway=crossing". But it should apear in
crossing=*, shouldn't it?--Langläufer (talk) 21:31, 9 June 2023 (UTC)- @Langläufer: yes, makes sense to me - feel free to add it there (under "Other used" section). --mnalis (talk) 19:00, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
