Tampermonkey Script
I was tired of copying cookies from browser, so I finally have created simple script to generate full TMS link for JOSM.
Tested on Chrome with Tampermonkey BETA.
Maybe it can be included on main page.

Ski activity type
How to filter heatmap data by ski activity type?
I currently use something like this to restrict data to run activity type:
tms[3,15]:https://heatmap-external-{switch:a,b,c}.strava.com/tiles-auth/run/hot/{zoom}/{x}/{y}.png?Key-Pair-Id=<...>&Policy=<...>&Signature=<...>
I can do a similar thing specifying "ride" instead of "run". But I can do it with ski? The "ski" string does not work.

Have you tried "winter"?
tms[3,15]:https://heatmap-external-{switch:a,b,c}.strava.com/tiles-auth/winter/bluered/{zoom}/{x}/{y}.png?Key-Pair-Id=<...>&Policy=<...>&Signature=<...>

"winter" works
I tried "winter" as you suggested, and it works, thanks! Is there a list of all possible values?

"both" no longer works
It seems that Strava have stopped serving tiles on "both"-path. Seeing how this basically is a combination of the two layers "run" and "ride", it wouldn't surprise me if they removed it.
Can someone confirm and remove the "both"-item from the page?

- I checked it and the "both" path is working but it shows the exact same image as the "all" activity (i.e. a combination of run, ride, water and winter). I'll remove it from the page as it's not useful to have a duplicate there. --Cafeconleche (talk) 19:07, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
Are "Global Heatmap in High Resolution" - Manual - instructions current? (2025)
At least for me, using the iD editor, it seems to have broken. Possibly needs to be updated to reflect use of cookie "_strava_idcf"? Osmedit (talk) 01:47, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
- I also cannot get a heatmap layer working anymore with iD (since March 2025 as the page mentions). Were you able to get it working with _strava_idcf? I'm not sure iD lets you add cookies to requests, is that right? Arichnad (talk) 14:44, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
I have not been able to get strava heatmap data to work yet in the iD editor but will leave a note here if I do. All others reading this please feel free to chime in. Osmedit (talk) 04:17, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- The ID id-strava-heatmap extension is working (June/2025), but instead the JOSM josm-strava-heatmap extension is not. A useful discussion about the new required format is here

- I've added a table to allow/encourage people to record what is and is not currently working. This is an inelegant solution, but I've spent a couple of hours fighting my way through different advice. Having failed to get some of the options working, but having confirmed that one does, it seems sensible to leave people with some pointers. If you can help by adding to this table it would be good. - I changed the table to report that the ID extension is working on Firefox. I'm using it right now.

- Great! I couldn't make this work, whereas I had no problems on Chrome. But that probably just points to a problem with my specific setup on Firefox. One of the main reasons for adding the table is to get just this kind of confirmation. While the status appears as "everything might not work at the moment" we're all left scrabbling around not knowing whether it's worth putting more time into trying to fix any technical problems we come across.
