One way access

Some way to tag a gate which is locked only from one direction would be good. Maybe a subset of locked:conditional would work. The difficulty for me comes in on trying to tag *which* direction is locked/unlocked. Best option as I see it is using cardinal directions, which I suppouse if you use 8 directions (NE, SE, etc. included) then you get pretty granular options which is probably substantial enough for most circumstances. For locks on a way it could also be left or right, similar to how guard rails and retaining walls work. That'd be ideal. But cardinal directions might be preferable for locked gates tagged as a node. This all also applies to doors too. --Upstream Snack (talk) 18:20, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Why not direction=forward/backward, like stops? -- Baprischka (talk) 08:09, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
If it's a gate as a node along a way you could use locked:forward=* and locked:backward=*. A gate usually will be along a way rather than a freestanding node. If it's a door then yes you could have it on the shared node between a building=* and highway=* in which case the forward/backwould direction would be along the highway=* way. However you could have the locked=* at the end of two ways and those two ways could be pointing in opposite directions... Aharvey (talk) 03:31, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
