Centerline

This key obviously indicates the presence or absence of lane dividers between lanes going in the same direction, but does it also indicate whether there's a centerline? If so, how would one indicate that a road has a centerline but no lane dividers or vice versa? I think that divider=* is preferable for tagging the centerline, as it can also answer what kind of centerline there is (if desired). --Tordanik 16:36, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

Could you explain to me, what makes you think lane_markings=* is for lanes in same direction only? I can't find this in description and example image shows a common rural two-way road. See also the two examples at Key:lanes#Examples. Regards --Chris2map (talk) 17:00, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

I don't think that lane_markings=* is only for lanes in the same direction. But it is also for lanes in the same direction, and it ought to be possible to describe each lane marking separately. divider=* does that for the centerline, and I could imagine a tagging based on Lanes for the others. lane_markings=* doesn't really work below the most basic level of detail. --Tordanik 17:49, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
