access=designated

Status: undefined

motor_vehicle=designated is used to signfiy that the specific object is designated (recognisable by e.g. markings) for use especially by motor vehicles. in the way similar as signed cycleways are designated for use by cyclists. It adds further detail to motor_vehicle=yes by showing that not only is access permitted, usage of the object by motor vehicles is in some way more convenient or desirable.

This tag does NOT mean that access is restricted for motor vehicles (in the sense that only some specific designated people can use it). Instead use motor_vehicle=private, or vehicle=private if it applies to vehicles in general. Also check whether specific exceptions can be tagged another way, e.g. motor_vehicle=destinationormotor_vehicle=agricultural.

This tag is rarely correct in practice. Roads built specifically for use by motor vehicle to the exclusion of all else usually have their own tags (e.g. motorroad=yesorhighway=motorway)
