Status: de facto

A large water basin or tank for a fire department to take water. It is designed to get fast access to water for extinguishing fires whenever the water pipes are not adequate and no natural water is close by.

There is also very similar tag emergency=fire_water_pond - a man made or natural body with water for a fire department.

How to map

Set a node node at the center of the feature or draw an area area along its outline. Add emergency=water_tank.

Also add a general tag for the water body or storage tank as appropriate:

Tags used in combination

  • name=* - the name of the feature.(or noname=yes if it has no name).
  • operator=* - the name of the company, organization, person or other entity operating the feature.
  • capacity=* or water_volume=* or water_tank:volume=* - to indicate the volume or mass held by the feature. The page for emergency=fire_hydrant and the one for emergency=water_tank have declared different default units for water_tank:volume in the past; it is therefore perhaps preferable to always explicitly specify a unit.
  • content=* - to describe the contents of a feature used to store materials.
  • intermittent=yes - used to indicate whether or not a waterway or water body does not permanently contain water.
  • access=yes/private/permissive/no - for describing the legal accessibility of a feature.
