This feature is in proposal stage. See Proposed features/Music venue.
The tag amenity=music_venue is used to map a place where contemporary music is performed which is not a theatre (amenity=theatre)
These rules are not definite, but some guidelines are: that it's usually indoors, only open when there is a concert, calls itself a music venue (as opposed to a restaurant, bar or nightclub).
Formal theatres for classical concerts and musicals are usuallly tagged amenity=theatre. Also see amenity=nightclub.
Be sure to ask your local community for any help or existing practices.
