Why limit it to markings for (car) parking?
I like this proposal (maybe it could be continued) ... I would suggest expanding the text of the proposal to include other cases where there may be markings on the road etc. (and where one could simply use the key markings=*). Or at least add a paragraph of text that it can also be used for other cases (with or without prefixes).
Some examples are (without claim to completeness):
amenity=bicycle_parkingamenity=bicycle_rental(bicycle_rental=dropoff_point)amenity=motorcycle_parkingamenity=mobility_hub(Proposal:Mobility hubs / in use).

parking:side:markings=single/area already approved?
I have a question about the following sentence in the proposal:
- "The proposal for the revision of street parking has introduced the tag parking:<side>:markings=* for recording markings of parking spaces. This key can be used to record whether a parking space is marked or not (yes/no), or whether single parking spaces are marked or only a whole parking area (single/area)."
This sounds like the values single and area are already approved. AFAIK they are however not documented.
So, what is correct? Is it approved or is it part of the proposal? The reason I'm asking, is that the question whether there are individually marked parking spaces or not is relevant for the capacity calculations. Therefore I'd be interested in using parking:side:markings=single, where they exist.
At the moment, the markings and markings:type keys are not properly orthogonalized. As it stands, one can easily set contradicting tags, e.g. markings=single & markings:type=lines. I don't have a better proposal for markings:type - except maybe to drop it from the proposal for now and to only add parking:side:markings=single/area.
