Last "failed" Proposal: leisure=gym
Proposal
Mapping a gym as a place which houses exercise equipment for the purpose of physical exercise. Most gyms have a main workout area, which primarily consists of free weights including dumbbells, barbells and exercise machines.
Rationale
Right now there are bascially 3 popular ways to tag a gym / fitness centre, with different key and spellings (AE/BE)
Gym
Ambiguous. Last proposal clearly showed that many don't support it, because of that. Proposal also completely failed to address that point.
Sports Centre (+sport=fitness)
Most people seem to agree that a place for workout isn't exactly a sports centre. There is also the issue that a sports centre for team sports might have a gym, but you can't just sign up for it. Not to mention that fitness can stand for a lot of other things.
sport=fitness
Some might also have used only this tag, which goes against the sport= key.
Fitness Centre
Which then is pretty much the only option left.
Why leisure=* ?
The leisure tag is for places people go in their spare time.
—leisure=*
Which is how most people use a gym. Also other tags like leisure=sports_centre or leisure=pitch use it.
